I'll see your Boiman and raise you a Stonebreaker (Calabrese).
Looks like we are starting to get on a roll with the talented linebackers. With his frame and ability to move he should be a good fit on the outside. 6'4" 250 with good range is protypical at OLB in the 3-4. Thundershaker | Email | Homepage | 06.06.08 - 4:49 pm | #

I think Fox can EASILY arrive at ND weighing 230-235 as a freshman (That is if his current weight is actually the 215-220 that's been reported). atepesm | Email | Homepage | 06.06.08 - 5:06 pm | #

Ohio State has landed some very good linebackers this year (and last). Just because they didn't offer Fox doesn't make him a poor recruit for ND. I'm also aware that OSU was recruiting him as a tight end (which speaks to his versatility and athleticism).
Does it worry Buckeye fans that your tight end from Michigan lacks a Michigan offer? I doubt it does.
I also think there is something to the fact that ND runs a 3-4 defense and OSU runs a 4-3. Sometimes kids are better fits in one defense than the other. Pat | Email | Homepage | 06.06.08 - 7:30 pm | #

College football annals are loaded with stories about players who became All Americans at one school while being totally passed up by many others. If Fox did not get an offer from OSU, so what? Janet Reno probably turned down Bill Clinton's advances. Did that make Bill unattractive? to Monica? lush | Email | Homepage | 06.06.08 - 10:16 pm | #

Joe Sub,
Gawd, I was hoping this would harmlessly fade away! I first saw these Dan Quinn youtube postings a couple of weeks ago, and, I'm sad to say, he is indeed a former ND football player. He was crazier than an outhouse rat even back in the late 80's. In fact he was so effing nuts that he is among the 1% of ND players that fail to earn their degree from du Lac. He was joyfully booted after an indiscretion.
He did participate in the Bengal Bouts, while never cracking the three-deep depth chart at OLB. The proverbial mama's boy, he was known around campus as the kid who blew the whistle (to the NCAA) on some recruiting impropriety by Southern Cal. His mother flew in from the Left Coast semi-frequently to yell profanities and accusations in the coaches office. She wanted to know why her Danny wasn't starting, on the Butkus List, etc., etc. A real peach, she was. He was a Southern California native who will go down in the history books as a guy who was detrimental to both Troy and the Golden Dome. And like herpes, he's the gift that just keeps on giving.
And now, sadly, he's completely lost any semblence of sanity. He's only 40 or 41, thus way too young to spend his life ranting into a video camera. As Ace Ventura once said, as he read "laces out" multiple hundreds of times in Ray's diary, "Obsess much?".
Very soon I plan to display a bumper sticker on my car that will alert other drivers:

Voice; They had that $hit up on Blue&Gold for a while. When I complained in a post, mind you, of the obscenty lace vitriol and anger at Lou coming from Quinn, I was banned for the 5th time in less than a year.

They're not worthy of you, jim. As the president of your fan club, I take their banishment of you personally.

Thanks, VIW, for the in-depth portrait of the younger version of this guy.
I take from the tone of your writing he's really more to be pitied than scorned, and it would seem the real source of his troubles is beyond his control.
In the spirit of ND and the faith it stands for, may I suggest everyone say a quick prayer for him and hope he gets the help he needs soon?
Now I recall the name Dan Quinn as one of those referenced in that hatchet job of a book, 'Under the Tarnished Dome'. Joe Subway | Email | Homepage | 06.07.08 - 3:20 pm | #

Yes Joe Sub. Although I am angry at him for embarrassing the ND family, I realize that I really cannot hold him truly accountable for his lunatic ravings. I do feel extremely sorry for him. I have had him in my prayers and I do hope that others will follow your suggestion and ask God to send Dan the help he obviously needs. And maybe God could also cause his camcorder to break. VIW; Thanks for your support Voice.
When Rooney wrote "Under" Quinn must have still been in his early 20's. Talk about taking advantage of someone's youth and naivete.
While still to early Voice, what do you think of ND's recruiting so far? How many Scholarships will they have to offer? Will one(1) or two)2) be used for the kicking game?
OT's in demand (2-3) LB's (2 more) DL's 3 or 4. WR's (1-2). Maybe no QB's with JC, Christ with 3-4 years each left. Hope you and your family have a good and safe summer.

jim, believe it or not, I'm not much of a recruitnik. I am interested and excited when ND gets kids that they really covet, but I leave the strategizin' to the experts. I always hope that no matter a kid's forty time or bench press, he has the heart of a lion and the will to win 'what though the odds be great or small'. As finding football playing talent becomes more of a science, I hope that ND will never cease placing high emphasis on a young man's (and woman's) character, intelligence and fortitude.
23 skid-doo, OC mj is definitely lights out! Voice in the Wilderness | Email | Homepage | 06.08.08 - 6:45 am | #

I had some run-ins with Quinn in the 1980s. At the time, he seemed like a caricature of spoiled kid -- Chet from Weird Science come to life.
It was a little hard to feel sorry for him then, because he routinely used his size and strength to threaten and belittle people. But it's clear the guy is in need of some sympathy these days.
Honestly, I just hope the guy doesn't hurt somebody. There's a lot of rage in those vids. Hal | Email | Homepage | 06.08.08 - 7:32 pm | #

I wonder if someone at the University should reach out to this still young man.
That form of anger seems to be way in excess of anything anyone could do to you.
Maybe a representative of 'du Lac" will extend a helping and healing hand.
Though it would not surprise me if that overture has not made made on several occassions.
Thanks OC.
VIW your ability to breakdown cogently the work of the ND teams is remarkable

Jim,
I knew Quinn mainly through Monk Hoops, though I think he was also in Sorin the one year I lived there.
He once tackled me into a wall on a breakaway layup, screaming, "No easy buckets!" or something similar. I was 5' 6", maybe 130 at the time. Later that night, he got elbowed in the face by someone who'd had enough of his "aggressiveness." As Quinn bled all over the court, I remember thinking with some satisfaction, "What goes around comes around."
But after seeing this video, I just feel badly for the guy. Hal | Email | Homepage | 06.09.08 - 11:11 am | #
