Great article. We have a blog to. We should link each other. http:// www.domersportsreport.blo...rt.blogspot.com. We have been really busy over there. Let us know if we can exchange links.

Thanks!

"...the University is advancing the process forward..." As opposed to what - advancing the process backward?

Lou Holtz should be AD. End of story. The man is a legend, loves the school, and doesn't give a damn about pay. I miss Lou.

Plus the grass on the field always needs a good plucking.

Funny to me how many people think Lou is qualified to be AD. Great coach, great speaker, loves ND, ergo great AD. (head nodding)

My bet is Castiglione wouldn't touch the job. He told me himself that he and Kevin White were friends, and he acknowledged that Kevin's authority over the football program was stripped years ago (probably pursuant to the O'Leary and Willingham hires). I got the feeling from Joe that it didn't sit well with him. Although the President at OU is quite involved with all things in the public eye, I suspect that Joe Castiglione has far more autonomy with football at OU than he ever would at ND.

If true, this is too bad. He admires ND, and he knows it's a very special place.

My2Cents...

I'm sorry, but didn't the Bomar incident and Kelvin Sampson's Happy Fingers Volume One happen under Castiglione's watch at Oklahoma? No thanks.

Also, interestingly, Chryst's name had been tossed around for the Duke AD job before Kevin White took that.

With Guards, all things are possible.

I thought I heard that Digger Phelps has publicly stated interest in the job. He was a great coach, knows and loves Notre Dame. Any thoughts?

As a callow sophomore in the early 70s I remember Digger's inaugural "pep rally" in Stepan Center, after he accepted the ND job

I think half the rally was populated by fellow BPers{ a male dorm at the time} probably due to its proximity to Stepan.

His first edition hoopsters had a tough year...I think they won something like 8 games. Included on the team, were 2 gridders Mike and older brother Willie Townsend.

They did pretty well in helping bring an NC for Ara in 1973.

It was the beginning of some great hoops history.

Few people have lived and breathed ND as much as Digger. While Orsini would be my first choice, ND would be fortunate to have a towering figure like Digger as well.

If Digger is hired by the university in any capacity, I will withdraw all my support.

I have not seen this name in any discussion of the AD job, but he is wonderfully qualified. He is Jon Spoelstra, a Domer & sports marketing & management genius. Pat Riley just named his son HC of the Miami Heat. I don't know if he is interested, but he would bring a great new insight to ND athletic management. Check him out.

BTW, who, with athletic management expertise, is on our Board of Directors & Trustees & how are such positions chosen? I fear our good Fathers may not be getting the best advice from these people.

D8NDomer

Tom Bowen, class of '83, is AD at San Jose State, with experience as assistant AD at Cal-Berkeley and a long stint with the San Francisco 49ers. The connection with the DeBartolo family can't hurt.

Tom's a straight arrow: hard worker, with tons of integrity. I got to know him when he was a student at Moreau Seminary back in the early '80's. He may be a little young for the job, but he'd have my vote on the character issue alone.
