GO IRISH!! |
defense on the field first; is that the first time this year? |
So our defense finally gets a 3rd down stop and we HAVE A F*CKING PENALTY. |
that's the risk we run having a true frosh in there. |
Nice coverage Mo Crum!!! |
Boy this defense-first idea solved all of our problems, didn't it? |
nice coverage Mo Crum indeed. Hold 'em to a FG. |
now lets go out there and take the lead. |
Sweet play, Mo!!! Is it me or is the camera work better on ESPN better than NBC? I have a much better sense of the game. |
yeah I want to watch the recievers this game and see how open they can get. |
Excuse the typos, first time trying to post during a game... |
nice catch george |
CW starting out vertical! |
damn, go down the field! |
UGH! Whatever happened to "Tight End U"? |
It became Tight Ends, FU. |
We're consistent. |
wtf kind of defense is this. |
I'd be more nervous if it was 3rd and 15 |
wow, we need to get some pressure. |
Looks like the 'douche came to play. |
I'll be surprised if Zibby gets drafted before the 4th round. |
Our defense can't blame this on the offense. Corwin Brown is making Joe Tiller look like a genius. |
FIRE THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!!!! |
Get Zibby away from ND and he becomes John Lynch. |
Tis gonna me another long day. Another loooong Motherf'ing day. |
arrelious benn is fast |
Nice to see Illinois showing how much PSU really sucks. |
how inept are we? |
Clausen actually has time to throw. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like very many receivers are getting open. |
We're down to the leprechaun making intros??? |
and they said that Allen was fast! |
It looked like Carlson fell down on the rollout. |
Jimmy throws the first "look" pass of the year. |
might as well go for it. |
dive?? dive??? |
PATHETIC. |
God Almighty, do we suck. |
And who saw that coming? Not the 11 guys in the box! |
Need a turnover. |
unwatchable fucking garbage |
can we clone Trevor Laws? |
Trevor Laws!!! 3rd and a million! Screen and Draw!!! |
Oh god, 3rd and 29. |
all the money that Zibby is losing, Laws is earning. good for him. now follow up with a 3rd and 25 completion |
Holy Shit! We're allowed to Sack too? I thought maybe it was some Catholic rule. |
What the fuck ... 3-29 and Purdue got their first down |
We just let them convert a 3rd and 29. |
3rd and 1, 4th and 1 ... we get stuffed. 3rd and forever and they catch it a yard past the 1st down. Gonna be a looooooooong year! |
see posts above |
you just knew that was going to happen...3rd and 29...sheesh |
Hahahahahahahaha |
so much for Walls getting his revenge from last year |
What a joke. |
meanwhile the zooker is doing just fine over at Illinois |
Incredibly, our ineptitude has taken their crowd out of it! |
It seems the entire team lacks any sense of what is happening and where they are on the field. |
Shame about the flag. Odds of PU converting on 3rd down just increased. |
Have we stopped anyone on 3rd and long this year? I remember it being a problem the last two years, but I thought we fired that guy. |
Why did I wake up with any faith that we would look good this morning? |
Were we man on 3rd and a million? That corner needs some help! Cover 2 or 4? I wish Tommy Z would give a better effort. Guess he's gonna keep his boxing gloves. His effort ever since his first year looks like he's just walkin onto the field as a favor. You know what Tommy, you have a gift. And if you don't want to show for the NFL and go box - then go box now. At least a younger guy who shows heart and doesn't go to his knees before making a tackle and doesn't put his hands on his hips as the tackle is being made, at least someone else younger could come in and give an effort like you. And then maybe by his fifth year we could break him down build him up again so that he would wanna play on Sundays. Get frickin motivated tough guy. |
and we suck today, just like yesterday...and the day before....all the way back to November 1993 |
This looks like another "watch one half and then turn it off" game... |
10 - 0 ---- and that's a moral victory for us! |
we stopped them! we really really stopped them!! |
Well said T, Zibby has thrown in the towel for the season and is an incredible disappointment. |
Did i just see a stop on 3rd and nine? |
Do the Purdue frats still have slip-and-slides down the hill? |
Boy, Purdue today looks like us circa 2005... |
woohoo zibby |
17-0, coming soon to a screen near you! |
Zibby absolutely has not thrown in the towel. Don't type such stupid stuff. |
Purdue's best effort was already given. Let's run the ball hard out of 22, four TE's |
ok, i know it's not much to watch, but can ESPN STOP MISSING PLAYS on the field when it shows the crowd or other games, or whatever??? |
Did anyone else see that effr? The kid's feet were in the endzone. That BS |
Pat, did you see him walk off the field right there without even turning around to see what happened to the ball? |
ESPN has gotten pretty bad at broadcasting football games this year... |
In college, it's the ball not the player. If the ball crosses the goal line at all, it's still a touchback. |
17 - 0, coming to a screen near you! |
LA Times this morning: in the last 10 years, Notre Dame is 74-52. Could it possibly be worse? |
so now the running backs and the dbs are letting us down. ND football, it is FANNNNTASTIC |
Our line is doing a pretty good job pass blocking, but the run blocking is horrible. |
Solid tackle by Jimmy! |
didn't quite matter about the fumble |
why do you throw that? |
Clausen is gonna be rally good one day. Just not today. Or next week. |
JimK - ask the 'LA Times' to show USC's record from 1982 - 2002. |
oh, well, that's fine. LB on a back. Still Mo was way behind |
1892-2006: The Fighting Irish |
Man - Jimmy, still learning... |
I am thinking about turning off my TV. |
Our linebackers are so easy to block. They never shed anybody. Ever! |
why not do the Ty and have Jimmy chuck the ball all over the field |
Right you are, Bill H. Amazing how short the memory of USC is. No NC from 1978-2003. That gives us six more years to avoid that futility... |
Even if by accident, could we not suck for one friggin game? |
Way to go, D! |
I know this is way premature...but even as bad as we are...we could beat this team... |
0-5....heading towards 0-8. |
Another moral victory! |
Of course JimK. ND is only down by 2 TDs. This is the same Purdue offense that has given ND trouble the past few years. The difference is that the last few years ND could score at will too. |
Boru, I was wondering the same thing. Even a stopped clock is right twice-a-day! |
Keith Olbermann has an interview in the October playboy. |
The good news is tickets for the USC game should be cheap and easy to acquire. |
OK, going out on a limb, but we're getting at least one offensive TD before the half. |
Alright, the officials got one right!!! Still only 2 scores. I'm still pissed about Purdue first touching the punt at the one. HPB, are you sure that the player can't be touching the Goalline? |
Yes, Pat - our D hasn't totally crapped out (except for that g.d. third and 29...apologies, Lord...)...if we could only generate some offensive consistency |
PK - you are right. With no line, JC is showing what he has. You obviously know the game, and can see it. With a run-of-the-mill OL, he'd have us 3-1 to date. |
Therefore the October issue of Playboy showcases the biggest pussy in America. |
Nice pass and catch. |
Claussen on a rope!! |
Clausen is being allowed to throw downfield! Take the training wheels off, CW. |
The player can be touching the goal line, the ball must not cross the line. |
so this week we can't run... |
Like they said, Purdue's defense is a siv. OL has progressed nicely. Everyone hold on. They sure are stackin up on the run game. I'd go empty a bit more often now and see how they're playin it if Jimmy knows it. We can throw it. David G already has two catches. Motion to empty with the H, more. |
Clausen's having some nice moments out there, but our running game seems to have regressed since last week. If it's not one aspect of our offense, it's another. |
Hate to say it .. I'll settle for one TD, one FG, and hold the Spoilers to less than whatever their average is (let's hope its 63 points!). |
Only run Thomas on fake punts |
Our running backs and receivers must have the fewest broken tackle in the nation. |
An opponent starting behind their 20. Oh for the small victories. |
The interesting thing is that the OL is doing a pretty good job in pass protection, but we're still not spreading out Purdue with multiple receivers. Having Schwapp release out 4 yards isn't going to help ND on 3rd and 10. |
Good point Pat. |
Duke beat Northwestern NW leads MI 10-7 MI beat ND 38-0 |
The scalpel's out now. 27 - 0 at the half is starting to look nice. |
The transitive property doesn't work in college football. |
Likes to draw sports pictures? |
Again, they pick up a 3rd and long by a yard. |
This is disappointing. |
Our D makes Painter look like Joe Montana in his professional prime. |
Benn made the right call. He'd be rotting with us. |
The ESPN cut-ins of Arrelious Benn tearing it up against PSU is like pouring salt in an open wound. |
Penn State vs Illinois looks to be a repeat of Cincinnati vs Cleveland from a few weeks ago. 21-17 in the 2nd qtr... |
Cowboy Curtis, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, 1986. |
Does anyone notice that our DB's are consistently running behind the WR's looking at their back and never looking for the football? Every game I see it. |
I kind of hope Purdue wins by 40+ so they can have something to inscribe on their Sun Bowl rings. |
Have to disagree re Benn. This year, yes. Over the next 3-4 years, no. |
Maybe tonight we can see Justin Trattou tearing up Auburn. |
Voice, keep it up. You're the only thing making me laugh during this game. |
I blame the lack of a school voucher program and the dwindling number of nuns teaching secondary educaton. |
20-0 |
gets worse...... |
What's the over/under on how many of these 19 verbals we actually hang on to come signing day? I'll set it at 15 for now... |
LL, the emu shirt is a riot! |
Charlie is a genius...no doubt about it. Best coach in college football. |
#2 son is at PSU-Ill filming for Sports Action Team. |
try 10 |
Bill, your 27-0 call is looking good. |
the ground caused the fumble. |
Pat The transitive theory works in relation to ND this year. Until they can show they can score everyone will be favored. Duke no exception. |
Tom, hold on! |
So Purdue is gonna drop 60. |
Let's make something clear. The purpose of this thread is to talk about the game. It is not a place for you to whine and cry like a 10 year old who just skinned his knee. |
did anyone else think the ground caused the fumble? |
how many fumbles is that for AA this year? Sheesh. |
kudos to the cowboy - we keep hearing about the great recruits...but on the field in a real college game? 50% of these players are CW's |
Like I'm watching the game now?? |
27-0 at halftime(?). Another good game for ND. |
Duke and Peter Vaas are going to be stoked to beat the Irish. Duke beat Notre Dame 37-13 in 1961, and I don't think they'll show as much restraint this time around. |
Thanks Pat. |
Sorry Pat, you're right. I'll go now. |
whats your take on what the commentator just said re: Charlie having to weigh a dedication to his seniors to get them to a bcs bowl against getting the young players ready for this year ... |
Hah! Obviously the announcer didn't watch many of our games last year. Granted, you would assume plenty of time for second stringers in a 10-3 season, but no... |
23-0... |
(honest question)- when the two o-linemen are that "slow" (per ESPN comment) getting outside to get ahead of Allen on that last offensive play, is that lack of speed, or fundamentals? |
We need some type of spark in the worst way. |
Except for Clausen who actually does look like a QB at times. |
well, we could have had players in during the Army, Airforce, Navy, NC games. Those were blowouts. |
These blowouts are unacceptable. Wholesale changes from the top on down must be made....at the end of the season. |
Lack of fundamentals...not speed on the AA screen. The blockers should be there by the time the ball gets there. |
Kerry Neal and Brian Smith have been playing nearly every play on defense. They look pretty athletic out there. |
10:21 a.m. -- a little too early to drink out here on the west coast. This is excruciating. |
interesting...a few more individual elements look sound...D has shown some character, which it did not against Michigan; some of JCs passes look good; but no running, bad special teams. Lack of consistency, no real progress...even with mediocre players, that's on the coaching staff... |
thanks, Big Mike. it seems like the 0-line guys are often confused as to what they're supposed to be doing. |
If Tiller doesn't call of the "dogs", this game could get real ugly in the 2nd half. |
wait, someone tell me why the commentators suck? |
I agree tom, Clausen looks competent. He's a solid young quarterback. |
"off" |
is it too much to ask for these guys to put together a few (maybe 10 plays) together? |
Speaking of running up the score, we have the perfect guy in Andre Ware to talk about that doing the game |
Time for us to convert a 3rd and long. |
spark = tate |
anon - I muted the game 20 mins ago. It's slightly more bearable not hearing the commentators searching for more synonyms for "awful." |
Tate and Kamera both with big catches on this drive.... The future is promising fellas.... |
Hey someone made a play!!!!!! |
Brian Smith, #58, is going to be a great one before he's done. Great, fluid pass rusher, keeps contain and has the discipline to "stay at home" when the ball goes away from him. And Kerry Neal is a real stud, too. Those two should rack up dozens of sacks over the next 3.5 seasons. |
Thank Jesus for small favors. Flashes of brilliance, fellas. You have to give them time, guys; they're freshmen. |
Nice move by JC to avoid the sack. |
Whenever we motion a back out of the backfield, teams send a blitz. |
LOL! |
lets try some 3 step drops. Man on man on the outside WR's. Fade? Flag? Give the WR a chance to make the play similar to when Tate was man on man. |
Snakebit. We are effing snakebit. |
Text from a non-ND fan: "When Weis gets a mature team of his own guys, they're gonna be scary." |
Scary-good or scary-bad? |
the wheels are now officially off...it's hard to believe that things are and have gotten this bad |
Mike, was an "LOL" attached to the end of the message?!? |
Does anyone else see a silver lining in what's going on down the field? |
intercept + good draw run = two in a row! |
the silver lining is that many of the elements of a good team make an occasional appearance. The enveloping dark cloud is the utter lack of sustained growth or in-game consistency. |
With 2:48 left in the half, Tulane trails LSU 7 - 2. |
not unless that silver lining heralds the end of the world, in which case I won't have to suffer through the last seven games. |
Silver Lining: |
Scary-good. And no, Voice, there was no LOL. The guys look good. They have moments where they look great. It'll happen. |
The analyst doing the Purdue game doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. To make a statement that Weis did not play young players last year and that is a big reason why ND is having trouble this year smacks of idiocy. |
Mike, I truly admire you're optimism. What I see is players who will in time be adequate...but no flashes of the greatness necessary to get back to the elite level. |
Tulane now LEADS LSU, 9 - 7. |
Okay, men. We're gonna fight. We're gonna fight, and we're gonna get 'em on the run. And we're gonna run, run, run. Are you with me, men?! |
I'll say it again...Aldridge and Hughes run/look like fullbacks...and I don't see Armando Allen's quickness or speed. Jeeze |
Please ban Bill H. from commenting. |
and much as I hate to say this...I see those flashes in the freshmen at USC, OL, RB, D |
Lush - |
Lush - it has been pointed out even here that Weis would have been better off rotating some younger guys last year to give them some experience. Especially at QB. |
Where's Rees Davis today? |
not only should Weis have played younger players last year...but he should ONLY play sophomores and freshmen THIS year... |
Rustydevil: |
Lush you are wrong. |
oh, so you were only referring to sharpley in your post then. ok. |
I was more pointing out the whole "smacks of idiocy" portion of that post. Agree or disagree, it's probably at the very least a point up for debate |
Benn is having his coming out party today. He's probably almost as fast as AA. With us, Benn would be: "where's his speed? Benn's slow." |
Did you ever think that you'd be jealous of the USF Bulls' program? |
Just what games did CW fail "to put away" the last two years? Please name the games where ND had a sizeable lead and let the opponent come back so the second team could not play. Also, name all the young players Weis had last year but intewntionally did not play. |
LOL "I can whip Lee Corso." Nice job, Lou. I'll settle for you backhanding that pompous ass to your left. |
okey dokey, should we divert Charlie's salary to hire some really good faculty (especially in the sciences), give them walnut paneled rooms, top notch facilities, outladish startups and move up the academic ranks instead. Really become Stanford with an (expiring) TV contract? |
Rustydevil: |
It's the Powlus curse, coming back from grave....... |
During today's Gameday broadcast from Oregon, some kid was waving a "Lou Holtz for Prethident" sign. Pretty funny. |
I saw that Voice - cracked me up |
Mark May was 100% right, you know. |
time for the paper bags... |
Don't want to be a Negative Nellie, but I, too, put some credence in the Powlus Curse. And I am friggin serious. |
The Past is a Ghost. |
Lush - |
Listening to the online broadcast here, and maybe it's the early start, but Criqui and Allen have been awful describing the action. Or maybe it's that it's 2:54 AM here. Anyways, why is AA playing and Hughes and Aldridge not? Maybe they have been, and Criqui just isn't telling us who's in, but if that's not the case, why is it that once we seem to find something that works, we run away from it as fast as we can? |
Let's get a nice drive and generate some momentum... |
Hey everyone! Just think about next year, when we win about 600% more games than this year! |
HEY LOOK ANOTHER FAILED SCREEN PASS |
You play the game to win. |
A slant route!! Why haven't we seen more of that? |
A four yard run, why haven't we seen more of that? |
600% of 0 is still 0. |
OK, now anything but a dive. |
3rd and 1...3/4 of a chance we don't convert..being generous |
I was counting on one this year, JimK. |
Teams should be blitzin us whenever we're in one back. It's just can we hit some boots and picks. Like 44 just did. Nice lil flare n slant previous play. We're movin it. |
oremus, as we used to say at mass, domer guy! |
A holding penalty, why haven't we seen more of . . . oh, wait. |
Hey guys, I just woke up from this terrible dream that we were 0 and 4 and we were getting it handed to us again in week 5. oh, wait a second........shit. |
Robbie Paris is standing out of bounds 5 yards downfield on 3rd and ten....great job getting open IDIOT. |
Clausen is a silky smoothe QB. Just can't do it all on his own. |
Analyists are saying WR's are standin around. Could they show the big screen replay? |
Who would have thought Geoff Price would be the backup punter in week 5? Did he get hurt or did Maust look that much better in practice this week? |
Rustydevil: |
Price was just that awful against Mich State. |
I would love seeing this game from an endzone view. As it is, this is like a radio broadcast. |
C'mon, time for a 3 and out by the D. |
It'd be nice to not give up 5+ on first down. Least we're playin field position. Holding on Walls? |
Lush - I think the point that RD is trying to make is that we grinded through too many games last year that were supposed to be 'gimmes.' Coming off of '05, it seemed as though we'd have a good 6 or 7 games to get reserves in. BQ took every snap at QB, save a couple. |
nope, pass interference |
what did he say? there are SOFT SPOTS in our D? |
Nope 3rd and a million. |
one man's view: |
Lush - I think you're getting confused between "playing guys in big spots where the game is on the line" and "Giving some back-ups some real time when the Irish are up say 17 or so in the third quarter" instead of bringing in Sharpley for handoff duty with two minutes to go in the game |
sdjfaslodfjldsajflaksdjfkldsa |
They got the spot. |
tackle....forget it |
This team rushes the QB, pursues the ball, gets off blocks, and tackles like my friggin grandmother. |
It's a rebuilding year. It's natural. |
SO I can guess that the poor tackling continues? |
Hey, we may not make good tackles, but we make good jockeys. McCarthy rode that hoss like he was Secretariat. |
I'll bet iour grandma could do it better... |
They are so soft there should be a Charmin sponsorship in place. |
Bingo bingo bingo! |
YES!!! |
And the slant again! |
Okay, I love Zibby, but he hasn't been "a great football player" for two years. Somebody please prove me wrong. |
Alright, I'm calling it. If we score a TD here, we're gonna win this. Stone. |
START KAMARA |
kamara in...JC looking like a qb |
Did I say switch routes? flat post/slant? |
who's after Sharpley? |
Domer Guy: Zbikowski was an All-American in 2006. |
DON'T HURT YOURSELF, EVAN. |
OKAY, NEVER MIND. |
time for the first JC TDP |
Tom: |
Well then TZ shouldn't be standin around the pile or shuffling to the other side of the ball in pursuit. |
Zibby was a THIRD TEAM all-american in 2006, and I think that was based on (1) his 2005 season; and (2) the success of the team. Like I said, I love the guy, but just don't think he's been "a great football player" since then. |
Today's color analyst, Andre Ware, started the Curse of the Heisman W's. When he won the award in '89, only Doak Walker, Charles White, and Herschel Walker were previous winners whose last names begin with a W. |
Zibby looks disinterested...Lambert and Wooden, just bad. |
LOL, Charlie Jr. even looks sickened. |
bootleg |
What a catch by Carlson! And first passing TD. Nice play. |
John Carlson? He didn't transfer? |
TOUCHDOWN BABY |
Hail Mary!!! |
gotta love Ware: "turns out it was a great call" |
helluva catch....the kick, eh, not so much |
Domer Guy - |
Fitting. Very fitting. |
Throw the team on your shoulders, John, and win this game! |
Perhaps Andre Ware realizes now why the FG is not an option from any distance. |
JC to JC!!! |
If it wasn't so confusing...all ND players should wear # 666 |
LOL @ Alum Son. |
john ryan smash... |
This is looking good. A drop, tackle for a loss -- now stop them on 3rd down. |
3 and out! woo hoo! |
who was covering that guy who droped the flare pass |
a stop? holy hell, we're getting field position! |
And Purdue starting to look like Sparty! |
Nice... |
Wow, a short route on 3rd and 11. Don't they owe us royalties for that? |
wait...did he just sat COVERAGE by Wooden? |
Urgh, come on rook, we don't need that BS. (although I like the nastiness) |
Answer: Nobody |
what's with the crappy emo fadeouts? |
More shots of Ware pumping iron? What a douche! |
Ambrose...Wooden..."on the coverage"? What? This is a series of words I usually associate with "Touchdown, __________ (fill in ND opponent)" |
Damn! Watching the Elis for no more than 10 minutes, and .. I miss our '07 offense! |
If we were to actually come back and win this game, wouldn't Joe Tiller's reaction be funny? |
Voice - I'm pretty sure no one would notice Tiller, because Ware's stroke followed by head implosion would take center stage |
Did anyone else just see the Arelio's pizza commercial? "Quality, quantity, annnnnd value." |
Slant to Kumara. |
Embarassing and stupid play by Brian Smith. Lucky not to get a 15 yard personal foul and automatic first down for Purdue. Too many silly personal fouls by this team this year... |
It's kind of obvious, but this is the best quarter of ND football this year. Turnaround, or anomaly? |
ouch! |
HOW THE HELL DOES SHARPLEY NTO SEE THAT BLITZER. IT WAS REALLY LATE TOO. |
What's wrong with Clausen? I think I missed something. |
Because Sharpley can only see within the "QB Vision Cone" from Madden. |
We'll get this. |
4th and 1..can we? |
The offensive line looks better... |
GET THIS. |
LOL Andre WAre still loving that ND kicking game. "decision time" . good grief |

No run play! |
Claussen is a warrior - could see it inthe PSU game |
we |
Pathetic. |
Sooper-Genius play calling strikes again! |
Hey, line, fellas, one of you might want to block that Heygood dude. Just sayin'. |
zibby - whiff! |
Zibby...disinterested...he looks like he wishes he were back in Buffalo Grove |
Zbikowski -- a "pretty good safety" -- or something. |
Good point by the announcers about the reverse pivot hand-off not being a good choice for 4th-and-1. 4th-and-1 and we can't get 1 yard? So much for a power running game. |
time.... |
Is Purdue a top 5 team? I've been asleep since immediately after the Ga Tech game. |
They should paint the lockers of every offensive lineman pink this week. They stink. 1 yard is all about guts, and we got none. |
Tom Pagna said this week that the deep one back set on short yardage takes too long to get to the LOS especially with our run blocking as inadequate as it has been - he recommended two back set just 3 yards behind LOS to get there quickly with two options. Weiss has been stopped two or three times on 4th and short with the same deep one back set. Makes you wonder |
You guys are about a minute ahead of my yahoo feed. The comments are hilarious. |
3rd & 22.....no replay of the first half please. |
Corwin's getting worked silly. |
let me correct my spelling -Weis- |
Ok - the game ended with that 4th and 1. With that, some pretty good things in the D holding this offense scoreless for 11 minutes in the 3rd qtr, and the beginnings of a passing game. |
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK |
Another STUPID play by Brian Smith. Welcome to the bench, son. This is not a disciplined football team. |
Brian Smith should never play again |
Clausen needs to look the defenders away. He telegraphs every pass...that might have been OK at Oaks Christian...but...wee're playing mighty Purdue!! |
Personal foul? Are you kidding? |
Sorry. I don't agree. Painter was still in bounds when Smith took a shot. We need more guys who want to hit!!!! |
That was complete bullshit! |
Another personal foul, excellent! |
criqui is telling it like it is |
Smith jumps offsides AGAIN! |
3 straight... |
Ah, they're trying to resolve Zeno's paradox by penalties... |
Criqui: "Brian Smith again...they *MIGHT* want to take him out..." |
Way to follow the receiver, Wooden |
this is friggin brilliant |
WTF?? That was 5 yards out of bounds. |
not catchable? |
Andre Ware doesn't care about physics. |
Wow, the refs get one right. |
i just hope USC beats the University of Willingham by 50 tonight...that might let me read the sports page tomorrow |
Way to follow the receiver, again, Wooden |
21 Irish points in the 4th makes it 27-26. Could it happen? |
Why has this broadcast become the Andre Ware show? |
Could've been a death blow, but the D didn't give up. Next possession is huge. |
no |
thats what I thought, Jim |
way to show those moves/quickness/speed, Armando |
How 'bout them Hoosiers? |
Charming. The Purdouche students in blackface. |
JC's arm still not 100%? |
So tate is GONE...great WR...and we TAKE HIM OUT OF THE GAME |
We won the 3rd quarter!!! |
0-5...better than 0-8! |
On the radio they're saying it's Clausen's side, not his arm--is the TV saying differently? |
No, they're saying hips/legs. |
Nate - it's not his arm, he has a left hip pointer |
there's no hope, and yet somehow I keep hoping for a miracle |
Did this injury happen within the last week? |
Clausen doubled over in obvious pain...appears to be his ribs or abdomen. |
Okay--Domer Guy's comment about the arm made me wonder. |
LL - happened on the crunch he took when he completed a pass. Then he got crunched again. And again. |
Why run anything besides that slant? |
I could never root for USC against anyone, but esp. against the Huskies today - all the best Ty, go get 'em. |
compared to Aldridge, Hughes and Allen...Jabbe almost looks fast |
F --- Ty...his fingerprints are all over these losses... |
JC played a gutsy game. Please God, do not let Weis feed him to the wolves in the 4th. And by wolves, I mean a mediocre Sun Bowl bound team that will probably give up 50 to OSU next week. |
that "shout" thing was the lamest thing I've ever seen |
Every UDUB loss reveals the TRUTH! |
OMFG!!! |
TATE SHOULD BE ON EVERY PLAY. |
Tate ROCKS! |
Who cares about 0 and forever. They're playin with heart. The smurfs have made an appearance. The offensive line is the story. They finally got all of the blitz pickups. Well done. We look competitive now. Great job defense! They forced field goals. I'm proud to be an Irish fan! |
Can we transport to two years from now when these guys are all juniors? |
Golden Tate is a gamer!! |
Smurf Alert!!! |
OMIGOD, THE FUCKER CAUGHT IT! |
Tate & Kamara to start next week, dangit! |
We are the midget Patriots. Outs/Slants/comebacks |
Right on, T! They're PLAYING. |
carlson...standing around |
Ummm, ND may not want Sharpley running like that. |
Andre the (Mental) Midget |
6 points! |
"don't call it a comeback" |
YES!!! |
Dooooo-Val |
Yes!!! Purdue's gonna regret that SHOUT routine. |
Ho. Lee. Shit. |
Hahahaha...you can only laugh. |
PAT??? omg |
Kamara!!! |
I'm all for 2-pt conversions the rest of the way... |
...and only 6 points |
Wow, this kicking game is downright Daviean. |
R U SRS? |
We should have, at the very least, two more points than we currently do. |
Tate and Kamara should play every offensive down. |
Who says we don't have good receivers? Look out for the freshmen. |
I'm sure that missed PAT was Willingham's fault too...at least I'm blaming him. |
The Shout Tradition is almost as cool as pounding the "Play Like a Champion" board. Purdue is Pitiful!! |
2-pt. conversions and we're 7 down. |
Okay, there've been 3 comments, so I have to ask--what's this "shout" tradition? |
Okay, D--let's keep it going, you've gotten rest. Let's GOOOO!!! |
Nate - in another ESPN "lets not show the actual game but something else" move, they showed Drew Brees "firing up the crowd" to dance to the song "shout" |
Nate, evidently we took the 1812 Overture, so they settled for the Isley Brothers. |
pat/redondo - |
Drew Brees led the Shout during a TV timeout. |
Yeah Drew Brees looked like a damn fool during Shout. That's one goofy bastard. |
T, |
Oops, missed that last PU FG there... |
Okay, gotcha...almost glad AFN's not showing the game now... |
"Shout" was released by the Isley Brothers in 1959. Purdue you are on the cutting edge of a very dull blade. |
I'd like a dumb special teams penalty for ten yards, Alex. |
Joe Tiller lost his virginity to "Shout." |
Nate, where u be? |
ST continue to kill us |
Nate- |
Imagine if this team (other than the D) had coaching? |
ST? more like ET. |
thought it was 1969...the Isleys played in the ACC that season |
Nah, they're just "special" with quotation marks. |
Do you guys think that ND's QB will ever have as much time to throw as Painter has had? The TV folks keep going on about routes and QB/receiver communication, but it's getting tiresome watching the Irish QB have little time and the opposing QB have all day. It feels like it's been that way this entire millennium. Sorry, had to vent. |
Unrelated question...does anyone have any idea where I can find the Cal/Oregon game in Chicago (Lincoln Park area)? I know I'm in the middle of Big Televen country and all.... |
Shhhhh, DG, we're actually watching this game now. |
DROPPPPPPPPPPP. |
No!!!!!!!!!! |
CLUTCH!!! |
Here Come The Irish...... |
WOW. Charlie has ginormous balls! |
Ah, there's that crazy robot genius I remember. :) |
Wow. Did we have Wheaties for breakfast this morning or what?? |
Parris looked like Samardzija on that one!! |
At least Charlie goes for it; pretty much all coaches would kick to protect the "respectable loss". I dont want Andre Ware on the short list for ND coach after the Weis era btw. |
onehipdad--Japan. |
No, I got it: we gave EVERYONE chicken soup at halftime. |
Carlson...shades of Bavaro. |
Nooo.... 4th and 1. Why couldn't it be 4th and 7? |
A SNEAK! Wow! |
Quarterback sneak every 4 & 1 |
Finally a QB sneak. |
LOOKING SHARP!! |
We'll always have Parris. |
This morning could get a whole lot better if this keeps up... |
A swing pass that worked! Wow! |
Nice, Voice. :-) |
post of the year, Voice. |
I was just going to compliment our line too |
We're setting 'em up for 4th down. |
God dammit, block someone on that screen. |
WOOWOWO!~@)#*!_@# |
Holy TATE! |
GT is unbelievable. |
INSANE!!! |
I LOVE YOU GOLDEN TATE. |
GOLDEN TATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!! (arelius benn who?) |
HOLY SH*T!!! |
LOOKING GOLDEN. |
The dogs just jumped as I yelled "YES!!!" |
Tate=HANDS...holy cow |
Thanks Lou ntL and Nate. But really, I never could have done it without the horses up front. They did all the work, and I just punched it in. |
Dammit, who ruined our good extra point? |
"If you're trying to win games, you go to Evan Sharpley." Here's hoping Mr. Ware knows what he's talking about. |
Did someone finally tell them we're playing football at halftime or something??? |
ok, I just scared the hell out of the cat ;-) when I screamed. She was sound asleep at my side and flew away |
This is ridiculous. |
hold your breath......... |
go for 2 |
Suddenly, our cynical laughter at the text message (the one from the ND-hater that ND will be "scary" when Weis has his "own guys") seems kind of stupid. |
yes |
why dont we go for 2??? |
WE DID IT!!! |
I like our chances at making 1 of 2 2pt conversion than 2 of 2 extra point kicks. |
That PAT made the officials want to shout! Put their hands up, and SHOUT! |
GOLDEN TATE VS. A HURRICANE. WHO WINS? |
Marchand - it was Sam Young |
BUT WHAT IF THE HURRICANE IS NAMED "HURRICANE TATE?" |
Lou ntL....LOL |
Nice one, Lou ntL! |
we can do this...Big Mo is wearing gold and navy blue at the moment. |
t2: figures. |
I hope CW plays Sharpley the rest of the season so we can win 3 games instead of 2...who cares about next season? |
Evidently we're going for two if we score again. |
Lou Holtz has Mark May in a headlock right now. |
there was no need to go for 2, its now a seven point game, but next time they score theyre going for 2 |
I'm nervous. |
Ooh. Did you see Clausen gimping through the TD celebration? I wonder how Bragg is feeling these days. |
this game reminds me of the MSU game last year |
Come on, D! TURNOVER! |
that penalty didnt help |
my god, walls |
man, walls is not looking to good today. |
I wish every receiver who bitched about a flag got 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct. |
Come on D! |
gibby...disinterested |
Score at the time: 26-19. ESPN headline: Purdue crushing ND. Bastards. |
actually, Pinkett and Criqui said the guy was wide open, and said it was a good job by Walls to get the penalty and only give up 15. |
Our D is too spread out to stop their runs. LB's need to fill faster. |
No argument there, marchand. |
Would someone please tell me the score? I don't have cable TV in my igloo. |
Nate, they were wrong. Walls never let Orton get open because he had a grip on his jersey. |
Sharpley is playing well, but these announcers can stop jerking off to him anytime now. |
Take it easy announcers. You can both fight over who gets to carry Evan Sharpley's books to class next week after the game. |
how could he be "wide open"...Walls had him in a headlock.. |
amen |
Bleh. |
Jeeze, Crum |
Okay, okay--I'm just saying what Criqui and Allen said on the radio, guys. Don't take MY head off! |
A moral "V" nonetheless. |
Let's score in the twenties, Irish! |
Touchdown Purdue pretty much insures Oh-for-September. |
that was not a touchdown...but saves some time |
hey, its still only a 14 point game... |
Those morons kicked it to Tate. He's lucky he didn't run it all the way to Logansport. |
I really don't want Illinois to win, but it is fun to watch Morelli scramble for a 1st and goal, only to fumble it. |
Short field, Sharpley to Tate a few times and retake the mo. |
Step 1 |
Tate and Parris look really good...all season |
Wow -- footwork by Sharpley! |
my thoughts exactly lou |
A personal foul? On them? Don't they owe us royalties or something? |
Step 1: Cut a hole in a box. |
kinda weak call, but I'll take it |
15 yard penalties help, for sure. |
The O-line is owning Purdue right now. |
VitW: winner. Fatality. Flawless victory. |
Damn.... |
Rats. |
Well, it was fun while it lasted. |
Charlie is so fucking stupid. I hate him. Tate has been amazing and he's on the bench? |
both clausen and sharpley have no 2nd or 3rd receivers. They pick one guy out before the snap and force it no matter how well covered |
game over |
All in all, the game where the mo, ever so slowly, started to turn. |
Okay, D, hold 'em so we can beat the spread. |
A little respect, and maybe crawling out of the 100+ ranks in the NCAA for offense? This game isn't a total loss. |
That's a coaching problem |
Seriously, why is Tate not playing every offensive snap? |
Aw, nuts. |
That does seem true, Jim / rb. Although they have used swing passes a few times. |
Andre Ware school of color commentary: |
Sure hope you're right, Bill H. |
walls looks like lambert |
the spread was 22...22 against us... |
Andre Ware makes Allen Pinkett sound listenable. |
You can bring a highway barrel into the stadium? |
Who was sent on the blitz on that long pass? Too slooowww. |
wooden looks like wooden |
Alum Son, |
As long as ND's not playing Tennessee, Hoya. |
Should we be getting worried about Walls? |
Pete Carroll Vs. Ty W? |
"Sharpley...trying to go back to the well. You squeezed that first TD into Carlson" |
I think Tim Tebow is waiting to read #6 on your list. |
いったいなんで勝てないんだ?でも、一年生の選手はいいな。 |
jeeze, Walls |
Looks like Walls just answered that question for me. |
...and Illinois beats PSU. wow. |
George, USC is on the schedule this season, so I have to cheer for them. |
Nate, I'm not sure what you said, but I feel I think I saw a girl with that tattooed on the small of her back. |
wtf is this douche painter doing? |
Where did ESPN get these announcers? Did they ask to borrow a couple of clowns the last time the circus was in Bristol? |
Criqui: "and no game, NOT ANY, means as much to Purdue as beating Notre Dame..." |
Painter is a LOSER! |
no...Painter won |
WTF is painter doing? classless... |
Ware likes UCLA and USC over ND this year. You just cant get this stuff anywhere else but from the world wide leader. |
Painter's kneel down was the absolute most douchiest in the history of football. What a tool. |
Crum really showed some NASTY breaking through the D line on that last play that Painter knelt down. |
Just venting, Obedaiah. Loosely, "Why the heck can't we win ONE game? But at least the freshman looked good..." |
Bottom line: We're improving, getting better each week. Tipping point will be when we overcome the Big I. |
what did painter do? |
see ya'll |
What is Painter doing? Criqui's saying he's just "collapsing"--they were wondering if he was okay. |
Good point, Nate. The TV intro for the PU defense was by Coach Brock Spack, who said something about about ND/PU being one of the best rivalries in college football. Am I snooty for raising an eyebrow? |
hes not just kneeling it... hes like waiting until someone is about to touch him, then collapses. |
LOOOOUUUU |
Painter was just fucking with us, it looked like he semi-taunted on the last play by not going down right away |
instead of just taking a knee painter does a bunch of effeminate sidesteps for a few seconds and then instantaneously assumes the fetal position in mid-air and then falls to the ground. |
he's an artist... come on guys. |
Lou liked ND's play on 4th down. 4th and longer than 1, he should say. |
Upon getting the snap Painter, stepped back, and then fell on his side like someone shot him with a .45. I've never seen anything like it. And he did it three times. All the respect I begrudgingly had for him just went out the window. Dick. |
I don't know -- he was probably trying to make sure the clock would run out. The "collapsing" probably stems from the diving that was evident from some of his teammates. |
It's kind of hard to say something nasty when they just beat us by 2 TD's, but here goes: We're not rivals. Just because we are in the same state, does not make us rivals. Just because you've finally been good a bit in the last decade, coinciding with a time period of us not being good, does not make us rivals. Rivalry is more than a few years of competitiveness. Your rival is Indiana. It is not our fault the Big 10 has no natural rivals of quality for you. Do not blame us, and do not drag us into your quagmire with you. |
PAINTER was taunting. On the second one that should have been flagged |
He's the QB at Purdouche, what did you expect? |
Sounds classy. |
be good losers, boys |
Well, ND plays Purdue next year, right? They'll get another shot at Painter in this "rivalry". |
Curtis Painter just gave the Irish something to remember for next time. |
Sleep? Or Oregon/Cal? Tough decisions.... |
Jim redondo beach: show me a good loser and I will show you a loser, goes the cliche |
I still don't think Sharpley is the answer. He's got a good arm, but makes lousy decisions (could have run for the 1st before the 4th and long to Tate), chose to chuck a high one to Kamara; missed the open receiver (west, I think) when he forced the ball into coverage to Carlson in the endzone.... |
The real question, now, is whether there's hope for the next three games. I have to agree with Mark May as far as thinking MSU and PU were the best chances for victories. UCLA's a long road trip against a team that owes us one from last year, and bc and USC are just plain good teams. |
Oh, OK...lets all call the winning QB a douche. Ready? 1, 2, 3... |
Hate to lose, but how refreshing to get excited for a stretch in the 4th and scream about some great plays. Saw a lot more fight in the Irish today. |
Next game, find eleven who want to play, and let them go both ways! Laws blocking on offense, Golden Tate at DB, Carlson rushing the passer. You get my drift. Rockne would approve. |
Douche! |
Jim, not trying to be a bad loser--but that move by Painter sure sounds like they were being bad winners. |
That might be the best plan, Voice. Better than squirrels for sure. |
The first half was awful. The whole season I've assumed we would be a nasty team in 2 years, but this week several freshman stepped up to give a preview. |
Lou ntL...I have no idea what you're talking about. ;>) |
Voice, are you saying you're sober this week? Is that just because the game started earlier, or is it a sign of progress? |
I can't afford another B.U.I. (Blogging under the influence). |
Smart. I guess I'll sign off. For my part, I postponed mowing the lawn until AFTER the game this week. That's progress. Enjoy the rest of the games, all! |
Peace, out. |
If Clausen is healthy, he will clearly start. Come on. You guys are all drones if you buy into the "controversy" created by the ESPN announcer. |
Don't humor him. |
I think these guys are turning the corner. They could have packed it in the second half but they didnt. We still have a lot of work to do, we need to do a better job getting off the ball offensively. Pass blocking was much improved today. Two turnovers and a 15 yard penalty that kept a drive alive was worth 9 points against us. the defense played much better in the second half when they got a little energy from the offense. I think that Charlie did a great job today. He totally shocked me coming out throwing. We can have a vertical passing game, we should have a better screen game than we do, the OLine needs to do a better job on screens. Sharpley played very well as did JC, I wish Sharpley wouldnt have made that bad decision, but we came right back down the field and that is a good sign. Go Irish |
ESPN's poll question should be: Who will suffer the ignominy of losing to the Irish this year? |
Doug- |
It seemed to me that the stupid squib kick on the kickoff after the Tate touchdown hurt us. Instead of a touchback, and Pdue starting on their 20, they got the ball at the 40 odd, penalty penalty, td momentum turns |
ND football...more 100+ yard penalty games, more bad snaps, more poor execution. It is no longer Willyham's fault. |
Wow, ND 0-5 and the Hoosiers at 4 wins with Minnesota, Ball State, and Northwestern still to play, have a good shot to go bowling. What a crazy year to be in Indiana. |
^ Moron who can't spell. |
Special teams again and again. With a young team, field position and those 5 points off of a missed FG and two PATs are very important. |
Voice- |
I think this game is important because Charlie can go to his team and say "Guys, we should have won this one" - and show them a few bad plays that ended ND drives or kept Purdue drives alive. |
gwzimm...look for some positives. This team played well in the second half, they easily could have gotten blown completely out. This score was actually closer than the final score. Penalties, bad snaps are not the coaches fault. The only penalties that you can blame the coaches on are personal fouls and that comes from a freshman. We gave them 9 and could have had 5 more, but this team played with some heart the second half. We moved the ball right down the field after they made it 33-19. Did anyone catch what they said about Tiller, he said this team is tied for the most seniors that he has had. We played a much better game in the second half and despite the outcome, I am proud of the way these kids played. |
Obediah, I agree at least this week. We could have won this game. We dont give them the 9 and we score the 5 now it is tied. That makes the play by Sharpley that much more important. We could have won this game, maybe the new practice mentality is starting to pay off. |
i would like to see michigan and msu replaced on the schedule by the indiana hoosiers and the indiana state sycamores |
As always... in Dylan's world ND goes 11-1. |
Hoosiers beat the stout-D Iowa 38-28. Re-think. |
Off topic, but a news report in Michigan today was that the Skunkbears are under investigation for using an ineligible player the first four games. They said that if that is found to be true, they will have to forfeit their first two wins. |
Good job spreading false propaganda.. Michigan conformed to NCAA admission rules, but not Big-10's. So even if there is a forfeiture, it'd be the Penn State game. And since Michigan self-reported the mistake, the probability that it happens is extremely low. Not to mention, that player is a special team scrub. |
Just reporting what was on the news in Michigan, Johnny Ahole...are you from Michigan? It was reported that he played in all 4 games and it is hard to believe that the Big Ten would have stricter rules than the NCAA. |
Not worried about the win, just another blackeye on the Skunkbears. |
Crum finally looked NASTY...too bad it was on the last play of the game. |
It was reported that he played in all 4 games and it is hard to believe that the Big Ten would have stricter rules than the NCAA. |
DJ, it was reported that he was a freshman. I only heard this from someone who listened to the radio news report. Im not spreading propaganda, just wondering if anyone heard about this and had any other news. Johnny seems to know a lot about the skunkbears, so he must know. I think it would be a shame if they had to forfeit their win to PSU, snickering, but the Big Ten will never penalize Michigan or Ohio St. |
Against most teams, a 23-0 halftime lead should have rendered the game moot. That Notre Dame was able to get to within a touchdown with 7 to go...well, this is Purdue we're talking about. The game truly was out of reach when the defense was unable to hold Purdue, and they scored the final touchdown. |
No, I hadn't heard the report, Doug. Thanks for the info. Perhaps we'll hear more later. |
rockslide, |
Doug, Doug. Bitter old Doug. Just happy to see the Wolverines-err, I mean, skunkbears (I'm so clever!!)-make a mistake. After a month replete with mistakes on Notre Dame's (Notre LAME!!!!) end, does it brighten your day to see others make erros? |
They've got "Shout", we've got "Call me Al." Neither is immune from lameness. |
Someone who uses "Notre Lame" in a sentence has no right to call anyone else lame for using "Skunkbears." |
Rockslide, Im not bitter at all. I just wanted to know if anyone knows of or heard anymore about this. I take my lumps like anyone else. |
your smrt, |
you cant spell |
Blackeye for sure, just like your Linebacker who took a cheap shot at Curtis Painter, for which a flag wasn't thrown. But they threw for his late hit down the sideline, the very next play. |
your even smrter: doug. |
Ok guys, time to get out of your parents basements and go have some fun. I log on to see two guys fighting like school girls. Grow up. |
Off topic a little, but too humorous to pass up (besides the 1st half) - |
You are right Mike, I apologize to all ND fans for my childishness. This board should be an open discussion about the Irish. My apologies and I wont allow that to happen again |
I would be satisfied to not see Grimes start ever again at ND. Kamara, West, and Tate all provide better options. |
I also motion to remove John Ryan from starting on defense. He maintains no edge for the defense and continues to pussy foot his pursuit towards the QB when he rolls out to the flat. |
brian, Grimes did well, but dont forget Robby Parris |
Ryan played well, I think the freshmen LBs will be standouts in the future though. |
Brian Q- |
umm no thanks Judge. |
Grimes is not a threat to any defense - his best plays are finding space when the QB is scrambling. He would not start on any team we have faced so far. |
Paris reminds me a bit of Matt Shelton. If our line play was more consistent in run- and pass-blocking, the offense would actually be good. |
the offense is improving...run blocking needs to improve. I would say get Duncan off the field first. He is atrocious... |
DJ- I don't really agree with that comparison. Shelton was more of speed/deep-threat type of receiver. Parris (not Paris) is much more of a possession guy, and has 4 inches on Shelton. |
I think Parris could be another Shark, he goes after the ball...Grimes is a good possession receiver....makes catches in tight areas....we can have a very good receiving corps and if we end up getting Michael Floyd it could be outstanding next year. |
I really do not see anything in Grimes as being the #1 starter for our current WR corps. Again, he would not be starting on any team we have faced so far. I like him as a third option matched up against a LB or SS or 2nd stron nickel back. He has not done anything spectacular to help this team against a starting CB. |
We just found a passing game today, Brian and he got injured. Give the kid a little bit of a break..... |
So, I didn't see the game today. Long story. Why don't I see any stats for Aldridge and Hughes. It looks like Armando Allen got the carries. Is that true? What happened to our ground game? |
I don't like weis. |
yikes. |
How did Weis become complacent. He was calling plays trying to win the game. Going for it on 4th down, calling plays to win, that isnt complacent to me. He showed more fire today than he has all season. This was a veteran Purdue team and we were there at the end. If CW was complacent then he would have packed it in at halftime. |
Forget the talking heads, you don't need their oppinions to figure this out. |
Doug, his post game speaches have the tone of complacency - that's what I meant to say. |
This year, much has been made of Mr. Weis' supposed "accomplishments." He won a few more games than last year, but this year's schedule was anomalously light. Let's not forget that Tyrone lead the squad to the exact same record his first year. As mentioned above, Weis faced only two teams that had anywhere near our raw talent level, but he managed to lose three games. Let's take a quick look at our opponents in the "glorious" victories this season. |
Hiloo... |
Doug, his post game speaches have the tone of complacency - that's what I meant to say. |
I don't think anyone on this board is saying that Clausen has played great, "Evan." Unlike you, we are a bit more sophisticated and can ascribe the proper amount of blame to the offensive line, the running backs, and the receivers. |
Not to interupt some heated debates...but has anyone noticed anything suspicious about the Washington throw back uniforms? |
Wow we're playing a doubleheader. |
I'd throw you the ball, but you can't even crack the WR rotation. Obviously, I'm sophisticated enough to count to 48. |
Washington looks just like us - no W's |
I guess if you can't play the part you can at least look the part. |
It's not an exact replica, of course. When I was very young, Sports Illustrated had UW QB Sonny Sixkiller on the cover (great name, no?). Metallic gold helmet, manila-colored canvas pants, a jersey so dark it looked like it was black, and yellow numbers kind of like the color of USC. Still remember it... |
They're trying to lull USC into complacency by convincing them they're playing ND... |
Regarding the QB discussion, CW said on his presser after the game that he would have to evaluate the film and see how Clausen feels. He expressed confidence in Sharpely but said the number one evaluation attribute he uses is passing accuracy, and Clausen has been more accurate than Sharpley. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what he thinks after reviewing the film and evaluating Clausen's injury. |
And we are not the scapegoats everytime your goldenboy locks onto receivers and holds the ball too long. We know he's a freshman, he's poised and he's courageous but a once-in-10-years recruit, he's not. |
Oh my God.Ty Willingham just said on ABC that Notre Dame is Charlie Weis' team; not HIS team. That lazy golfing MF'er!!!! I'm having a terrible time rooting for either USC or Washington right now!!!!!! |
Ty...Ty ...Ty ...the reason this Notre Dame team doesn't look like anything you remember is because all your recruits from your last two years are tackling dummies on prep O and prep D. |
Nothing like listening to Brent Cheeseburger. What an announcer. |
Man, Musburger is making me puke the way he strokes Willingham. Chauncey must have really pulled the wool over his eyes in their little sitdown. |
the arrogance here is pretty cool. washington 7. usc 0 in case you're watching. i realize you were the first team ever to wear gold helmets and blue jerseys but keep blaming the season on ty. it makes for better drama. |
Anybody know why Derrell Hand apparently didn't play today? Also, Romine (injured arm) and Harrison Smith (no reason known) both didn't make the trip. |
Wow Auburn has 3 freshman starting O-line and leading UF 14-0 at the swamp. Interesting. |
There was a little fight in the Irish today. We just had to wait until halftime to adjust . . . . again. Better late than never . . . sigh. |
Irish in the Ville - |
I've noticed a fair number of you seem to be Yankees fans...New York City is a fair distance away from South Bend/Chicago...please explain the attraction, as the Yankees are even more repulsive to a neutral observer than is ND...and that's not easy to do. |
The Rock Report said o-lines generally gel at game 5. While performance was better than previous games, I was disappointed that we couldn't run the ball better, especially against a PU defense that hasn't been known for stopping the run. |
Yes, PU was the least physical team we have played so far and the next three games will be with teams that have more physical defensive lines. it was disappointing. |
I've noticed a fair number of you seem to be Yankees fans...New York City is a fair distance away from South Bend/Chicago...please explain the attraction |
we're overrun by trolls... |
Smile and wave boyz. Smile and wave. |
I'm from NJ & I live up the street form Jen Scicosia's home, a ND lax player. |
Interesting JM. JC said in his presser this week that he felt fine. His injury today certainly had an impact on his ability to throw. He's a tough competitor though. |
I am a Notre Dame fan and a Yankee fan because my father is a fan of both, my son is because I am, that is what was talked in our house and watched. In the day when I was young you had limited access to sports so family influence was great. I believe my father became a Yankee fan because of Joe DiMaggio and being Catholic he became an ND fan. Thanks, Dad, I wouldnt want it any other way. |
Well stated Doug! |
im from CT and also like the knicks and giants so i think i can get a break on the yankees front. |
I'm a Notre Dame fan because those who aren't burn in hell fire for all eternity. |
Auburn beat Florida with 3 freshmen OL starters. At least SOMEBODY can play freshmen and win. |

Hey Hilookathis: |
2. Grear players make great coaches -- Bear Bryant |
Here in PA, Penn State is taking heavy critcism. Why? It has an experienced QB, a team comprised mostly of juniors, seniors and 5th year players, a coach in his 42nd year as head coach and an 0-5 record if it played ND's schedule. Thank God for Fla. International and Buffalo. |
ND Hockey , a sense of perspective. |
ND obviously was lucky to get Jeff Jackson . ..big time. |
Hmmmmm...no it means that Weis is a great coach and Willingham isnt, despite what Brent Muckburger says. Did anyone notice that Washington has a senior OLine, Locker is a redshirt freshman not a true freshman and I want to see what he does in the next few years with Ty's penchant for recruiting great linemen. He was a gift to Ty, he didnt want to leave Washington and was a Huskie fan. The kid has talent, but I hope that Ty fans dont look at him as some kind of recruiting coup for Ty, he had to do very little work to get him. Of course Mussberger and Herbstreit made it sound like he was about to be coronated. I can't believe that Ty actually made me cheer for USC, who by the way played one of the worst games that I have seen USC play in years. |
Preferred Wsahington if only because of the uniforms. |
Or Washington... |
Hey Hmmm: |

RE: Lush - "Have you EVER seen a Weis team quit??" |

Have to agree with old tOSU is righteous. |
by the way...what's up with Walls and his Lambert/Wooden impression? |
I'm sorry JM, but I can't take anyone seriously with the handle "tSOU is righteous." |
I'm glad I don't read these threads on game day. |
Jim/Redondo Beach and Doug: |
^ Not that I like anonymous posts, but this one is on the money. ND fans will never convince the world that Willingham deserved to be fired and/or caused the mess that is the 2007 season. I realize that there are arguments that can be made, but at this point they're either falling on deaf ears or preaching to the choir. Please, I beg you all, let's ignore the ABC interviews and all the negative comparisons, and just focus on the team and the coach that we have. |
Willingham was not fired because of race, he was fired because of performance both on and off the field. Should he have been retained for the remaining two years even though the program was regressing under his leadership because guys like Terry Brennan and Gerry Faust were not fired after three years? If Ty had been retained, were would ND's program be today? Do any of you realize that Ty's biggest supporter, Monk Malloy, wanted to remain President but the Board of Trustees said "NO? |
I don't hate Willingham...in fact I rather admire a .500 coach (or priest or businessman or husband) that has lost as many as he's won and still has ADs for some of the most storied football programs in the nation falling all over themselves trying to give him millions of dollars a year for mediocrity. Read my previous message regarding TW's career W-L and recruitment record. He left the Stanford and ND programs in shambles...he has a modicum of success at UW now because his 5th year seniors, seniors and juniors were recruited by the previous coach...just like Weis' situation...but because of Willingham's unseemly recruitment record...in reverse. The man is a coaching charlatan...but hey...all the more power to him. He's used his color and reputation as running "clean" programs into a net worth totaling millions of dollars. Go figure! |
P.S. When I say TW has had a "modicum of success" at UW...please excuse my hyperbole. He's 9 and 18 during the last 2+ years...a .333 W-L percentage. Not even reaching mediocrity... |
"Under CW, he (jeff spellcheck) became a first round draft pick." |

What round did the Cubs take Samardzija in? |
