Your turn to pay homage to me

Gravatar Fuwahhh thanks for the answers.

I read preferably better don't feed chicken neck. Choking hazard.

When you mention minced meat... meat = beef?

Hmm vet told me not to feed pork. I'm not sure why. Maybe because of the worms hehe.

Do the bones get stuck in their teeth?

Oh I always wonder how you can stand the smell of raw meat?? I know I tak tahan. But I will try. Since Chester is just beginning to eat his new pack of kibbles... I'll try this raw feed in few weeks time. In the mean time I will read more on this. I'll try slowly. TQVM!!!

nah... raw chicken necks are ok. it's big weight-bearing bones that pose choking problems.. like beef shanks. actually all raw bones are fine because they don't splinter when chewed (unlike cooked bones) and dogs know how to eat them properly.

minced meat can be anything. beef, venison (some hypermarkets sell them), chicken. all mixed in. you know when you ask the meat guy to grind meat for you? pet food is the bits and pieces that fall into the inner compartment tray in the grinder.

pork.. honestly i've never tried. only pork liver. pork is also more expensive than chicken, so to save cost, i dun think i want to invest in pork.

nope, the bones don't get stuck in their teeth at all. funny, this issue never crossed my mind at all.

okay, raw mince meat is stinky. got this meaty, bloody smell. liver is also stinky, got this sharp iron smell. this one i have to agree. but what is stinky to us is like heaven to the dogs. actually i find some kibble stinky. like innova evo.. to me it has a weird melted plastic smell. pro pac also got some funny smell. pedigree smells ok, but who wanna feed pedigree right? lol.

which is why i like to feed raw chicken because it's the least stinky of raw meat. oh, and hard boiled eggs too, for a change.

ya, try raw feeding after you've finish the kibble because it's not a good idea to mix kibble + raw.

good luck!

suddenly i feel like i'm becoming such an expert on this subject.

Gravatar Be wary of chicken bones though. We once made the mistake of feeding one of our dogs chicken, including the bones, and the splinters from the bones damaged her stomach and intestines. She died soon after... :-(

Also, be careful where you buy your raw meat, as some may contain parasites...

yes i know the dangers of feeding raw meat. Brandy did gag over an overly large piece of meat once, but I've seen Bobby gagging countless times while eating his kibble because he practically sucks everything without chewing.

things like that... tend to make you less paranoid. i dunno, it just does for me.

and re: parasites... i don't cook the meat but i deep freeze them. i believe that if brandy ever show signs of food poisoning e.g. diarrhea, vomitting etc, i will stop feeding her raw, but so far so good. in fact, bobby's the one who had a few bouts of diarrhea last year... and he was on a kibble and home-cooked food diet.

Gravatar hi, i've got a furminator medium size, but not in a brand new packing. i believe it's second hand, though it looked brand new. i'm selling it at RM135. email me if you're interested. =)

oh, btw.. i'm against raw food.

haha one furminator is enough for me, thanks!

yes, some people are against feeding raw, but then again, to each his own, right?

Gravatar I'm still paranoid of the bone part. :P

I'm thinking... surely we will put our dogs in boarding when we go traveling for example. And how are we to ask them to feed our dogs raw meet. Aduh. They don't have freezer/fridge also ma. Double aduh. Can't feed them kibbles back... stomach won't have it.

can lah. bobby has kibble for breakfast and raw for dinner. Just as long as you don't feed raw + kibble together, should be no problem. because kibble takes longer to digest than raw.

as for the bone part, you can choose to omit the bone as long as you can supplement with other forms of calcium e.g: powdered/crushed egg shells, bone meal powder.

whenever brandy gets a hard boiled egg for breakfast, bobby gets the crushed egg shells on top his kibble.
