not only has the flat tax.. time has come......... the irs should have never been created. in 1913.. when wilson. pushed thru the fed reserve. an irs .. he sold out his country.. but anyway......... being a prepare of taxes for many years. the irs is way way way to complicated for the avg. person or even an educated one........ when we have to have some company prepare the avg working mans taxes liability in this country and charge them outrages amounts. and hook them into high return loans.. there is something wrong.......the irs spends more money trying to collect and enforce..... then is needed... it is easy.............. my idea......
any company who hires more then 10 workers.. pays 5% of salary .. for each worker. and the worker pays.. 3% .. strick enforcement... co. hiring someone under the table. and caught is severe penalty... no base.. no cap.. you earn you pay . re: of income and children. no filing no refund...... companies will be gald to pay.. they can hire more workers. for more productive means.. make more money.....its cheap.....they pay no ssi no med no ss. nothing ... no captial gains.. no interest tax . no companies pay just workers..all money raised. pays .. . but we have no overhead..... irs is gone as we know it.........let them go get burger king jobs........for mim wage.. which would go up to $10 hr..... 2nd get rid of the states..... who cares if we live in south or north carolina. or ny or maine........ make it east ..west and norht and south ..areas....roll all govt services into one...... no overlap....why do we have city .village. town . state . fed..police?????? we cant even convict someone of a crime without being difficult. worried about our borders.......no problem make mexico.. part of the usa........?? why not..... great water and shoreline... have them become the 51st state........investors would love it..... condos......... condos .....condos....... pay $10 hr mim wage...... heck there land would make them rich.......gulf and ocean .. property.....million plus .. build casinos... wow .. i might even want to go...... then we can work on our bro... canada.. . joining....... we better start changing our ways....and cleaning up our life styles.........not worrying about who;s child some rich kid is.. and how degrading we can become on national news........ and think if we only could take away the guns.......... yaya.. guns dont kill.. sick people and corrupt govts due....... if we dont clean up our act.........GOD. WILL WHEN HE COMES BACK...... if even he would what to come back .. i know he will. but why i dont.......... i would hope you would be a refreshing breath of air.......mr. huckabe.. but you proably will have to bring jed bush along to have a shot in...... good luck....... i may even reg.. this year.......... although. i live in a repulican state..... so your already in .......ya thanks to electorial college... my vote doesnt count once. proud vietnam vet. usa citizen.... but ...now just a born again believer... actually......... we could end the president race.. and just setup a board of directors.. no congress. no house...... yep just a board and people vote on issues. by internet....????????? ok my 2cents ..... best of luck....... in the race........... i support you.. if you want my support ahhaa . charlie........

Having heard your strong support of the "Fair Tax" during the May 15 debate, a position I strongly approve of, I would be interested in knowing how this can be reconciled with the stated support of the "Flat Tax" concept which maintains the IRS as a government agency. Are you for the "Fair Tax" or the "Flat Tax"?

I also would like to know if Mr. Huckabee supports a "flat" tax or the "fair" tax.

I'm also curious. As a rabid FairTaxer I'm curious as to how two totally different tax systems can be supported by the same person. We FairTaxers are not in favor of the Flat Tax Period!

Ahh...... I just saw the date of the article. Sept 2006. I believe that the Governor has modified his views since then.

I am thrilled to see that Mike Huckabee supports the FAIRTAX, which is a very important issue to me. I will be voting for a president who supports drastic tax reform, and specifically, the FAIRTAX.
Please continue to keep the FAIRTAX in front of all of us and make it a reality SOON. We need aggressive, assertive, and strong leadership in the area of taxation.

The originators of this website definitely need to update it. I met Gov. Huckabee yesterday at a Fair Tax Workshop in Columbia, S.C. He is solidly behind the FAIR TAX and has an impressive command of the details about the it and seems to be able to communicate them clearly. No question.

I guess this is universal: there is nothing as permanent as a temporary government solution. Plus, wasn't income tax brought in as a temporary solution?

Apologies to all...the original post was written way back before Gov. Huckabee was briefed on the FAIR TAX and adopted that system as the one he supports. I have finally corrected it. To be clear, Huckabee advocated the FAIR TAX not the "flat" tax.

I was a Republican, but I was going to vote Democrat this time around until I read Mike Huckabee's proposal on elminating the IRS and the 16th Ameendment.
The first politician who elminates the IRS, has my vote, regardless of their party affiliation.
If you want to read an excellent book about this subject, read the book, THE TAX RACKET, Government Extortion from A to Z, by Martin Gross. Probably the best read available on this subject.
I'm a CPA and I use to work for the IRS and I know our current corrupt tax system from both sides (yes IRS personnel know the tax system is corrupt), so please don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.
Getting rid of our current tax system, would be such a breath of fresh air, would eliminate the headaches of April 15th for hundreds of millions, would restore ALL rights of the our Constitution, would stimulate the US Economy, would eliminate Trillions of wasted dollars on tax preparation, consultation and tax disputes and most importantly, people who now don't pay any taxes would have no choice thus eliminating the huge tax gap we presently have. We would also elminate all collection activities. Because the tax would be paid up front or no goods or services would be delivered.
Good Luck and I wish you the best, especially with regards to this issue. Dave

Mike Huckabee has got it right and has the intestinal fortitude to see it through and make it happen. The FairTax is the Fair, Simple, Efficient and Pro-growth Tax System for the 21st Century. Huckabee has Vision. The FairTax will go a long way to put our great country back in it's world leadership roll once more. Huckabee gets my vote for President.

I like the idea of the fair tax-based on consumption rather than earnings.
No loopholes-this eliminates lobbying by special interest groups for under the table-back room tax deductions and credits-would make for more transparency in government and clean up some of the dirty dealings we have now

After many years of being a strong southern democrat I have to say that Mike Huckabee sure has got my head spinning. I was a huge Edwards supporter, but with Mike leading the way for the fair tax bill, I can't help but to support him. Anyone object to his signs being posted in a democrat yard? What can I do to help?

Fair Tax..Dawn of a new America, where we the people are in control of the goverment and not the other way round.
Gone well be the days of countless hours of Congress and the House fighting over whos specal intress group gets whitch tax break...Just for fun take a look at the bills before congress and I think you will be suprised at how many have to with the tax code...it's no wonder they never get anything done.
I am a fair tax supporter!

I am pleased to see Mike Huckabee suppporting the "Fair Tax" It is the best way to bring jobs back to the United states and make us more competitive in the world markets without devaluing the Dollar. I believe the elimination of
"Estate Taxes" should be modified to reduce the possibility of the super rich from becoming a dominate ruling class. I feel the first ten million of an estate should be exempt of estate tax but any estate in excess of ten million should be taxed at 90% of the remaining estate. I feel this would protect the family farms and small businesses owners who want to protect their business holdings.

Mike Huckabee is an adroit public speaker. He communicates his message in life-like, cogent terms, with compelling examples like the story he told (at the Ames Straw Poll) of what his then-11-yo daughter entered into the "Comments" section of a Visitors Book after visiting the Yad Vashem holocaust museum: Why didn't somebody do something? Very effective.
Huckabee is all about calling his listeners to "do something," to awaken them to their own empowerment, and summon them to action in order that "Main Street," and not "Wall Street," will prevail in guarding the values and beliefs upon which the Republic was founded.
Huckabee puts his listeners at ease, and reassures them, articulating clear concepts in a natural, easy style (no doubt something well-cultivated as a pastor). Hes not as mechanically-scripted as Romney, nor angry or demanding, like a Ron Paul, and his large brown eyes, peering through a humble demeanor, draw a striking contrast to a unconvincing, tired-looking Thompson. One can easily imagine sitting comfortably with Mike over a cup of coffee at the Main Street Cafe.
Most importantly, perhaps, Huckabee is ONE with the FairTax grassroots movement. While many - like Romney, and others, who are invested in the current income tax system - seek to demagog the well-researched FairTax plan, its acceptance in the professional / academic community continues to grow. Renown economist Laurence Kotlikoff believes that failure to enact the FairTax - choosing instead to try to "flatten" what he deems to be a non-flattenable income tax system - will eventuate into an irrevocable economic meltdown because of the hidden aspects of the current system that make political accountability impossible.
Romney's recent WEAK response to FairTax questioning on This Week with Geo. Stephanopoulos drew a sharper contrast between Huckabee and all other presidential front-runners who will not embrace it. Huckabee understands that what's wrong with the income tax can't be fixed with "a tap of the hammer, nor a twist of the screwdriver." That his opponents cling to the destructive Tax Code, the IRS, preserving political power of granting tax favors at continued cost to - and misery of - American families, invigorates his campaign's raison d'etre.
Of the FairTax, Huckabee asserts that it's...
SIMPLE, easy to understand
EFFICIENT, inexpensive to comply with and doesn't cause less-than-optimal business decisions for tax minimization purposes
FAIR, FLAT, and FAMILY FRIENDLY, loophole-free, and everyone pays their share
LOW TAX RATE is achieved by broad base with no exclusions
PREDICTABLE, doesn't change, so financial planning is possible
UNINTRUSIVE, doesn't intrude into our personal affairs or limit our liberty
VISIBLE, not hidden from the public in tax-inflated prices or otherwise
PRODUCTIVE, rewards - rather than penalizes - work and productivity
A detailed benefits analysis of the plan (from The FairTax Book) explains Huckabee's ardent advocacy:
For individuals:
No more tax on income - make as much as you wish You receive your full paycheck - no more deductions You pay the tax when you buy "at retail" - not "used" No more double taxation (e.g. like on current Capital Gains) Reduction of "pre-FairTaxed" retail prices (due to reduced costs, increased competition) 29.9% mark-up yields 23% FairTax portion of prices Over the first year, "market-adjusted" FairTax prices comparable to current Every household receives a monthly check, or "pre-bate" "Prebate" is "advance tax payback" for monthly consumption to poverty level FairTax's "prebate" ensures progressivity, poverty protection Finally, citizens are knowledgeable of what their tax IS Elimination of "parasitic" Income Tax industry NO MORE IRS. NO MORE FILING OF TAX RETURNS by individuals Those possessing illicit forms of income will ALSO pay the FairTax Households have more disposable income to purchase goods Savings is bolstered with reduction of interest rates
For businesses:
Corporate income and payroll taxes revoked under FairTax Business compensated for collecting tax at "cash register" No more tax-related lawyers, lobbyists on company payrolls No more embedded (hidden) income/payroll taxes in prices Reduced costs. Competition - not tax policy - drives prices
Off-shore "tax haven" headquarters can now return to U.S No more "favors" from politicians at expense of taxpayers Resources go to R&D and study of competition - not taxes Global "free (and equitable) trade" becomes possible for currently-disadvanted U.S. exports
US exports increase their share of foreign markets
For the country:
7% - 13% economic growth projected in the first year of the FairTax Jobs return to the U.S. Foreign corporations "set up shop" in the U.S. Tax system trends are corrected to "enlarge the pie" Larger economic "pie," means thinner tax rate "slices" Initial 23% portion of price is pressured downward as "pie" increases No more "closed door" tax deals by politicians and business FairTax sets new global standard. Other countries will follow
Passionately supporting FairTax, Huckabee understands that, if elected President, Congress will have to present the bill for his signature. His call to action goes beyond his candidacy: Main Street will have to demand that their legislators deliver the bill.

As a moderate Democrat in a far left family I was quite amazed as we listened to Mr. Huckabee's speech this morning in New Hampshire. Just previously on CNN we had enjoyed the speech from our current front runner, Mr. Obama.
The only real reason we even paid any attention to what Mike might say was because we had seen him on the Bill Maher show. If Bill respects him he must be OK. (That should give you some idea of the depth of leftism I am talking about.)
As a small business owner I was very impressed with his argument regarding the strain the tax system puts on productivity. Actually rewarding low productivity. The overhaul of the tax system is a very appealing message, both from a headache standpoint and from the obvious thrust of productivity that could be created as we compete in a world marketplace.
I believe that this one issue alone, if presented properly and believably, could swing an entire election. All the other problems are much more easily addressed with full coffers. (We can fight about abortion later)
Unfortunately, to capture a large number of liberal Dermocrats and Independents, I think Mr. Huckabee would have to run as an Independant. It is too much to ask for us to vote Republican after 8 years of Bush. Our hearts can't bear it.
