You are right that by "criminalizing" those that came here illegally, we are also punishing young children who had no say so in this matter. I work with teenagers who are exceptional students and have the potential to contribute to our society and the world at large, but right now remain hopeless and uncertain of their future because they are undocumented. They worry that they will not be able to afford college, that their families will be deported, that they are not accepted, that they don't have a future. What can I say to my students who have worked hard in school and want to hold on to the idea that their hard work will pay off? What are their options if education is not part of that equation? Don't we recognize that if education is not an option for them then they may find other ways (less favorable for us all) to survive in the world? Where is our humanity in all of this?

This is a very difficult topic. There is no right answer to what needs to be done, but I believe that Huckabee has the right attitude towards the problem. We need to close down the holes in our border and be able to monitor who is actually entering and leaving our country. We then need to deal with the problem of illegals in our country AFTER THE BORDERS HAVE BEEN CONTAINED. I do not believe that we should just ship everyone back over the border. We need to establish a penalty for them to pay and a program that these people can get into so that they can be a viable part of this country. I DO NOT think that they should be able to vote without attaining full citizenship. They should NOT be entitled to Social Security anytime in the near future. There should be strict limits on how much money can be wired out of the country. Citizenship for children born here by non-residents should NOT automatically be given U.S. citizenship....there are a lot of things that need to happen, and it needs to happen in the middle of the road, not on straight party lines...I think that Huckabee is a good person to push for a strong, yet fair immigration reform.

This is a very complex issue. The people coming over here are coming to improve their lot in life-given the proverty and corrupt government in Mexico-you would probably do the same thing.
However, we do need to know you is in our country-and what they are doing-so the first thing we must do is close in holes in the border. The second is to set up a program whereby
the undocumented become documented-and have a path to citizenship.
The current backlash needs to be against our government who allowed this mess to happen-and not against the immigrants themselves.

When Huckabee was on Fox News Sunday he said that the illegals should leave this country and get behing those waiting to become legal.
He then said that he wants to set up a system that could get this done in a week.
My question then comes Does he mean that when a new system is set up that could pass the paperwork through in such a short period of time that he would process the millions in line and then the 12(est) million illegals coming back through? I get an uneasy feeling on this one and need clarification.
Is there still going to be yearly limits?
Is he for allowing all the relatives as well?
I like Huckabee but these are the issues I have concern with.

It's true, the illegals are here to better themselves, but they are not helping us by sending most of their money home and not learning English.(I'm tired of pushing 1) I feel this is not and never will be their home. When they have gotten what they came for, they will go back to Mexico far richer and we will feel the losses. The immigrants in the past came here to stay and become English speakng Americans. I say secure our borders to stop the invasion and send them home. This can be done by penalizing anyone who hires them. Without a passage to "betterment", they will leave. No welfare, no college grants, no free medical, and no free Social Security.
