Gravatar Prophet,

I didn't say it was OK, in fact, I said it was a bit of an idiot for doing so (see: "hubris" clause), but if the Trade Center is a slam dunk for another attack, it's not horrible strategy to have a command center close by, in a building that would not be part of the attack.

He was wrong, but that was based on a matter of the degree of the attack, and that is something he could have guessed at but never have known for sure.

To put it another way, the command center at Number 7 was about the only target in that building at all.

Gravatar Whatever his rationale, he chose poorly. You don't get do-overs on stuff like this.

Gravatar Actor212,

Why on earth is it ok to put the command center in the place where "just another bombing" is very likely? Why not put it in a place where a bombing is least likely? Wouldn't that be common sense? Isn't you reasoning . . . stupid?

Gravatar I'm going to grudgingly defend Rudy a little on this point: he knew the WTC was a target, and while ultimately the hubris of putting a command center in the complex became apparent, the only thing he was in denial about was the massive destruction of the attack.

He figured it would likely be "just another bombing" (despite Ramsi Yussuf's brag about bringing the Twoers down), so putting a command center on site makes sense from that limited POV>

Gravatar You understate your argument about how big a freaking terrorist target the WTC was. You make it sound like Giuliani just had a lack of foresight.

In reality, the WTC had ALREADY been attacked by terrorists in 1993. While every other person on the planet has 20/20 hindsight, Giuliani's hindsight is blind as a bat.

Gravatar Don't forget the fact that, despite several warnings from the FDNY, Rudy couldn't be bothered buying properly radios for the department.

Gravatar RG didn't have the time to disclose this knowledge. He was busy making sure the trains ran on time.
