If they don't actually attack, but get shot up, it is a cheap ( a few dead Revolutionary Guards ) diplomatic victory ... they can play the victim card till the cows come home.
It would also make good domestic propaganda fodder ... people at home are getting restless with the theocracy's incompetent government. A phony war would make a good distraction.
Good points. After hearing the Iranian's voice on ABC News tonight, though, I'm wondering if they were drunk or stoned. The guy didn't sound like he was all there.
