Gravatar What does episode 3 entitled 'Bedfellows' mean? I hope its not what the name sounds like. If so, how could the actors sell out by portraying a guy cops in New Orleans.

How does this have to do with brothels?

K-Ville on Fox's Fall TV Must-See; Episode 3, Bedfellows

Gravatar There are two common meanings of the word "bedfellow." One is an associate. This his how I most commonly think of the word, as in the phrase "politics makes strange bedfellows." That means that politics often leads to unusual alliances between people and organizations either to get elected or to get things done once you are elected. The other meaning is one with whom you share your bed - and the word is not specific about gender. Shakespeare uses it in "Taming of the Shrew" for example to refer to Bianca who is most assuredly a girl. In a brothel your bedfellow is whoever you're paying to have sex with. Just because the common use of "fellow" as a noun is male doesn't necessarily mean that they're referring a man.

(And if you think there aren't gay cops in New Orleans or virtually any other city you are sadly mistaken.)
