Gravatar Dealing with waste is an age old issue with any culture. Annamarie's Aunt and Uncle that live in a yurt in Big Sur claim that all trash they generate is composted, burned, or recycled. (They try not to buy any styrofoam. When they do, they pack mail packages with it) Oh and you mentioned weeds earlier. Have you tried tying up the mustard greens close to the plant? They etiolate and become very tender and not so sharp after about four days. Purists use the thin branches of the plant itself to tie them up but I've only used twine

Gravatar Piles just happen -- it's the CFS issue. Any convenient flat surface seems to beckon for more pileage.

And yes, it takes constant vigilance to keep on top of them.

Gravatar Just on the subject of accumulated rubbish: a couple here in NZ are going rubbish free for a year. That is no rubbish in the landfils for the year.

I doubt it will help you with piles in the yard but it's an interesting read non the less and nice to know that people out there are really thinking about different ways to approach their consumption.

Gravatar Rubbish Free is a great enterprise! I am glad they are doing so well with it.

We've found a corollary to CFS syndrome. That yurt we put into the space? People are coming home and staying in it! I believe this property was well documented in Field of Dreams: "If you build it, they will come."
