Human induced global climate change is bunk, I tried to tell you to stay away from AMWAY too, but you wouldn't listen....As far as 'Affluenza', that must have been in the three years you were there before I was born, unless your definition of affluence is different than mine...Mom used to feed all 5 of us lunch on a single can of tuna. She fed us a 'macrobiotic diet' before anyone knew to call it that. Two pieces of fruit a day. New clothes were rare, walked home from school, all good things but not associated with affluence.
Tell you what---why don't you come up with a few benchmarks for me? I remember Balboa Peninsula flooding regularly by ocean storm surge, but that hasn't happened in a long time. Tell me ONE SOLID THING that is going to happen, that hasn't happened before, due to 'global warming'. Finally, the most sustainable thing of all is opportunistic flexibility. Right now oil's cheap, let's use it. (None of the preceeding was parrotted from Rush Limbaugh or anyone else..)
Just because our way of life is unsustainable doesn't necessarily mean that it's headed for collapse.
It is true that with current technology and current population and consumption, we're headed for catastrophic collapse within the next century.
We could reduce population (um, bad?) or consumption (fine in America, but in large parts of the world, also bad).
Fortunately, we're not limited to current technology. It is possible that we'll figure a way forward that doesn't suck.
It is by no means certain -- history is full of civilizations that lived high on the hog, overstretched, and bit the big one.
We're living much, much grander than any previous civilization.
My biggest hope is computers. Virtual lives are much kinder to the planet than real lives. We can't afford to have 6 billion people driving SUVs, but we can certainly afford 6 billion World of Warcraft accounts.

Tell me one solid thing that will happen to a man who gains 30 pounds. We don't know he'll have a heart attack, but the extra weight sure ain't helping.

I was kind of confused at how people seemed genuinely offended by Bob's posts. Or maybe that was an ironic "I won't be back," cleverly pretending to be offended, and I'm not sharp enough to follow it.
