Gravatar I like to think it's culture coming full circle. I just finished reading Jared Diamond's book 'Guns Germs and Steel', and he talks about how specialization is what brings hunters/gatherers into modernization. You hunt for me, I'll build you a better spear. But we became SO specialized, it became more about stuff than survival. We're at the point now that you can survive without doing much of anything. For some, it's about acquiring more and more stuff. Another option is freeing up time for self expression. I do think we're better off with specialists; particle accelerators are pretty cool. I also think there's a deep satisfaction in growing your own food, catching your own fish, building your own house.

Gravatar You nailed it with the "more stuff" vs "self expression" demarkation.

"More stuff" plays into the hands of those invested in enriching the rich, while opening free time for self expression plays into God's hands.
