I read Myrna's letter, and I can feel the genuine concern that she has for her community. Generally speaking, an elected council is obliged to handle issues in a way that reflects the opinions of the people that put them in office, or as some call them, the folks who pay the bills. When councils have been made aware of details from municipal staff members that the citizens have not been able to understand, the natural reaction should be to discuss the problem timely and openly, and either agree or compromise.

If Langley Township residents are developing the feeling that they, through their elected representatives, no longer have any say in the management of our community, I don't blame them one bit.

Personally I am becoming sick and tired of every little decision being reffered to staff for their opinion.
It makes one wonder if some of these councilors cannot interpret, and draw conclusions on anything that is not clearly decided for them.

I keep hearing folks asking where and why leadership has been lacking on so many issues. The answer seems to be that staff members, who have no responsibility to the electorate, are in fact running our affairs. Thus one could easily conclude that the bureaucracy at township hall is being led by a practised bureaucrat. Now who would that be?

This rudderless bureacracy is my opinion of course, but I would be interested to hear what others have noticed that has given them a similar opinion.

I really like your comments in the third paragraph....the problem is that it is Long, Kositsky and Richter that do most of the referring back to staff all the time....look at the high rise bylaw for example.

Did you ever think that the proposed design missed the mark in the first place Wink? I think that the same three saw some of the flaws in the water management plan as well.

I hope the WINK part of your comment is genuine when you comment like that.

Gravatar The bureacracy IS running things at municipal hall and has been for the last 8 years fronted by our Mayor in name only, Kurt Alberts. After all is a former senior bureacrat of the same organization he now pretends to lead. Ignoring the publics input in so-called open houses and not enabling due process when it comes to public input has got to stop, and it will stop next November. This arogant "we are the professionals and know what is best for you" attitude WILL come to an end.

Gravatar We are having some technical problems with our commenting software and I apologize because I lost one of your comments submitted today. It was not a complimentary one either but in fairness please submit it again and I will post it. Sorry!
