What is described here by Councillor Richter follows along the same lines that the mayors opponents tried to ilustrate during the last election. It fell on deaf ears for reasons that I will never understand. Candidates like Tomblin or Melnychuck were defeated when they pointed out how the mayor and his secret slate had no sense of priorities, but voters either got hoodwinked, or just didn't bother to vote.
To see our tyax dollars going into a money hole like a museum is evidence that the ways of our tax wasting mayor have not changed. If museums are your thing, there are plenty of them to visit without adding another. Old Fort Langley is what and who we were in bygone times, and it's all we should afford.

Imagine, putting a museum in the birthplace of British Columbia, Fort Langley!
And elected officials actually live there! The scandal!
Better to put the museum in Surrey, or better yet, Merritt, where nobody from Langley actually lives.
Or have the decision made by politicians who don't live here. Even better.
Perhaps some day Richter will get past her gender politics, her bogus conflict-of-interest politics, her pitting-one-neighbourhood-against-another-
politics, and come up with a constructive thought.
Where would you put the museum, Kim?

Pundit: Thanks for your comments. If we are going to build a museum, of course the most logical place for it is in Fort Langley. You won’t get an argument out of me on that.
However, I think you missed my point entirely. It wasn’t whether we should build a new museum in Fort Langley. It was whether we should in fact be building a new museum at all RIGHT NOW given the other pressing problems/priorities in the Township, the likelihood that the anticipated costs of this project will be way over budget due to the general inflation seen in construction costs in the Lower Mainland, and the already rapidly rising general tax rates that we are paying and will continue to pay in the Township.
I have always worried about government spending and keeping taxes low. The vast majority of my notices of motion come from the thoughtful requests made by ordinary taxpayers to the Council. They want value for tax dollar and so do I. Contrary to your opinion, I believe this is constructive and I will continue to be very vocal about fiscal responsibility.
I hope this helps clarify my position for you.

This just about takes the cake for nonsense. Here we are, our taxes going up, the new hall way over budget, the new grandstand way over budget, buying a golf course, and who knows what else we don't know, and then they come along and propose a new museum?? And, the decision again, has to be made fast? Sounds like the Redwoods, what was the big hurry on it?
When they try to push things through real fast, it always makes me think there's something being hid from us. Whats the hurry?
I'm sick and tired of paying for all their spending. Lets take a deep breath here and make a plan instead of jumping in with both feet and then putting all our taxes up.

All I can say is whenever I read that a project has to be done on the quick you can virtually guarantee that it will go over budget!

A museum. Can't you see the architechs rubbing their hands together already? The building alone with all it's curves and artsy fartsy angles will grow beyond what the towwnship can afford. Here we go again with these Art Centre type dreams, while the things we need get sidetracked or fall further into decay.

Oh dear ,,Richter, another Papa Scholtens hang on. Scholtens who would not even let the taxpayers speak in the concil meeting, until they had a pre-meeting with him, and were APPROVED!! YIKES THAT'S A DEMOCRACY?? I was in the council meeting when in answer to a citizen, asking that he not be so stupid as to build a TWO LANE overpass on 208, and Scholtens assured him , with no reservations that it would definitley be a 4 lane overpass!!
The Truth didn't matter. ..he had to get it finished in order to assure his being re-elected. Also , don't forget that the bumbling 200 St INTERCHANGE was signed and sealed and settled by Scholtens...not Alberts.

Lets imagne - a fine new museum, a new arts centre, half a dozen new parks, an enclosed grandstand at McLeod park, a new pool in Aldergrove, more destruction, I am sorry construction, of the Willoughby area, all in the name of art, sports, recreation and growth. No repairs to exsiting roads, and no upgrading of exsiting sewer and water systems. But we have culture, and sports complexes and rapid uncontolled growth. This Township needs leadership to improve the older decaying areas and in the areas that need the most upgrading - Brookswood, Aldergrove and Fort Langley. WE do not need more buildings that only a hand full of the citzens of the Township will even visit. We need upgrading of the exsiting water and sewer systems. We can all survive without arts, sports and recreation but with our ground water systems over taxed and over extended we would be hard pressed to survive with out clean water and a functioning sewer system. Lets get our feet on the ground and demand from this council the things that we need now, not when they become even more costly to repair or install.

Simply put, our current mayor needs to realign his priorities. The overall budget is pretty much set and as anyone who has run a household knows until you know you can pay for food you shouldn't be buying a new plasma TV. A NEW museum is not justifiable at this time, water, sewers upgraded roads and parks (not golf courses but real parks to address the needs of new development) are what we need in Langley.

You would think that Mayor Alberts might understand by now that his inability to prioratise will eventually be his undoing. Because township people didn't get it when it was last pointed out (Nov.) we got this misfit for another three years. I am dumbfounded by the fact that none of his faithful silent slate boys ever get onto this blog and state their points of view. Richter gets her share of slagging and accepts it as part of the job. Jordan does the same. I know that other councillors read this blog regularly, but I have to assume that they have received their instructions. Another possibility that they are simply without an opinion on on anything.
