Gravatar Kim's observations are something that everyone in the township should be concerned about. Since the local rags have not been able to disect things as Kim has in this article, we have to think seriously about coaxing the council to go outside for fiscal assistance. Kim's comments are deemed by too many to be political in nature, and having only one good business head at the council table is not enough anyway. This sort of thing just can't go on unchecked. Let's hear some comments or ideas.

Gravatar As a recent arrival in the Township (moved from the City) I can't believe that council isn't making sure that the new developments cover the cost of their increased services. The developers are making a pretty penny building the mega townhouse complexes and it horrifies me to think that I am subsidizing their profits with my property taxes.

Gravatar Why shoud the township not use a business consulting firm to go over operating and capitol budgets? Past overbudget experiences illustrate that the money would be well spent. The township is no different to any other business, and needs equal professional guidance.

Gravatar Blair: Your point about new development covering costs is quite correct. New development means increased revenue. Increased revenue pays for additional police, additional city maintenance and staff etc. In other words, with reasonable exceptions, it should keep in step with the township's increasing operating budget.

Big time spending for grand projects on the capitol budget side is another problem we face too.
