Gravatar I would find it hard to believe that there would be too much arguement with the comments in this article. A good measure of the amount of interesting reading in our local papers is how long it takes to read them. If you're not into the sports section, I think the answer has to be something like: Just a passing glance..

Could it be that there is just enough in the way of local news so we don't call them circulars? If they don't improve, they could end up facing competition from the Sun or Province should they decide to put another section in their daily covering this area properly. Hmmm, maybe We should make the suggestion.

Gravatar Maybe we should have more Langley Free Press's and Langley Politics.commers in Langley. The more the merrier. As we say "Our priority is to share information and discussion about the community with the community." Obviously we can use more of this. For instance, we betcha that if not for the aforementioned blogs that the frontpage picture and article would not have been about the Grandstand in today's Advance.

Gravatar Couldn't agree more about the local papers. As far as I'm concerned they have become nothing more than advertising flyers masquerading as newspapers. I can understand completely the need for advertising to pay the bills but surely they could make room for a little more relevant local content, especially on issues which are of real importance. Some of you may remember the days when Jim Schatz was editor/owner of the Advance and when John Pifer was editor of the Times. Some of the stories had a little more "bite" back then.

Incidentally, in the past ten years or so, the Star has, in my view at least, provided the best local coverage. It's changed since the buyout but so long as Kurt Langmann is there it will always be better. If or when Kurt leaves I'd be willing to bet that in less than six months it will be a carbon copy of the Times.

Gravatar I agree, the keyword you used is "bite". When working for large corporations in any kind of business I find that "bite" is discouraged except in the sales & receivables part of any organization. Bite becomes "risky" in the day to day operations of large organizations.

Gravatar Keith: Its funny you should mention it, but I always thought Langmann's paper was a newsman's paper. You can feel a professional touch in it. I suppose it mainly suffered from a smaller circulation.
