I agree with this article up to the point of putting armed police of any kind at our border crossings. We are not a nation of gun toting people.
Armed guards at out border? For what purpose? Are we going to be invaded? Criminals crossing into Canada are no more of a problem than the ones that are here already, except that they are, and have been almost nonexistant.
An armed customs or imigration officer is no less than an accident destined to happen at some point. The victim is more likely to be the armed guard than any desparate criminal.
Yikes...what La La Land are you in Cinderella?? It's easy to see that the States have already wakened up with their 9/11. Ours is yet to come and maybe then we'll all wake up from our fairy dreams. Of course we could put our wonderful Sea King helicopters up there, and for the 5 minutes that they would stay in the sky....boy I'll be they would really scare everybody.God help us when we have our terrorist attack...we have absolutely NOTHING to fight back or protect us.

Enuff, In all these years Canada has been known as a 'peaceful country' and we had no terrorism to worry about. Even US residents that traveled went to the trouble of wearing a Canadian T-shirt abroad, as Canadians are well thought of.
Now that Harper is in the driver's seat we have cause to worry as he is too closely aligned to the US and their bully policies. He should back off and get back to our policies that supported our peaceful nation and create distance between us and the US.
Wouldn't it be safer and cheaper to adopt a policy that creates no threats to anybody? It's worked all these years, why change now?
Me thinks that methinks is right about the customs officers carrying fire arms. There has only been one instance in the last 35 years on the West Coast where a customs officer was shot at and that was a US customs officer at Lynden. He was killed and he was carrying a gun.
That's my point goforit. The guy with the gun is the target of these gun loving idiots. Enuff must figure that terrorists will commit their terrorist acts right at the border.
