Jack Layton should at least purchase a degree from some military college before he opens his mouth on what our military should be doing. I think he loves the media attention, and he can't stay away from a micrphone.

I’m not sure why you would want Layton to have a degree from a military college. Granted, the current minister of defense was a brigadier-general and brings an understanding of military matters to the portfolio. But Layton asks the very questions and raises the very concerns that millions of Canadians are talking about everyday.
I have gone over Layton’s speech and he cleverly uses the very questions raised by the now Minister of Defense when he was in opposition.
• What are the goals and objectives of this mission and how do they meet Canada's foreign policy objectives?
• What is the realistic mandate of the mission and how is it being enforced?
• What is the defined concept of operation?
• What is the effective command and control structure?
• What are the mechanisms for effective consultation between mission partners?
• What are the criteria to measure progress?
• What is the definition of success in this mission?
• What is the clear exit strategy for this mission?
The former Liberal Defense Minister and Paul Martin failed to answer these questions.
And now it’s the Harper Conservatives turn to obfuscate

Shane, Will a clear majority Canadians ever be upset at Canada's war in Afghanistan? It's basically tied now. What or when could cause this swing. Conversely, what could swing Canadians to overwhelmingly support the War? My bet is that there is a lot more risk in Canadians becoming increasingly more upset rather than happy about the war. Big risk for the Conservatives I think.

Shane, They are there, and in the thick of it, for goodness sake. If you or Layton think it's a mistake, fine, but don't let down our troops by sewing doubt about our weak kneed resolve.
Re risk to the Conservatives, pee on them, or any other political party. We're talking about our boys over there, and that's where the risk is. They need our support until this is over. The political bashing can go to town then.
