The problem is that the number of people interested in the field and willing and able to work on the committee is small. If they have the civic minded nature to become involves, then it is likely that they have already become involved in one way or another and therefore likely have some form of political affiliation.

What I’m saying is that the pool of candidates is necessarily small to begin with and would only grow smaller if you pulled out all the people who have any political affiliation. The aim should be to find people who can set aside their pre-existing biases and work towards a common goal based on an accepted set of guiding principles. I have no idea if Mr. Tomlinson is one of these people but I supposed we will find out soon enough.

As for adding Bateman to the story, as far as I can tell it just adds another hit to Bateman’s Google index
