Lorne makes a lot of sense on every point in his letter. The part that mentions the risk to ownership of the energy sector is very important. Our sleezy Mr. Harper should have at least left the energy trusts alone. They are one of the few strtong economic engines that Canada has. I expect they will be eaten up by foreign owners now. Harper should have had better advice.

Corporate Trusts have been in Canada for many decades. ie Ontario Water Heaters fund. For some reason they only recently caught on and provided a source of capital by Canadians for Canadian business.
Unfortunately people naively believe taxing corporations is 'money from heaven' and that government will make better use of income than corporations or Canadian citizens who recieve the income.
But the government will continue spend our tax $$ on companies like Nortel and labor funds that just never seem to prosper or return a profit to its shareholders.
This is a bureacratic decision made by greedy bureacrats who already have their $50K+ annual pension compliments of working Canadians who are left to survive on the $828/mo CPP.
And every party supports it because they 'need' to build their kingdom.
