This Editor highlighted the outrageous Cllr. quotes that Richter heard & repeated in her posting. I also added my favorite stupid Cllr. quote as a byline to her heading. I hope she does not mind that I added these highlights. But this Editor felt it was important to do so.
This just exemplifies that these Cllrs. are better equiped (questionable at that) to handle civic politics in a village like Spuzzum B.C. with a miniscule $1 million dollar budget (I'm sure Blair will correct me on Spuzzum's budget!) as opposed to a complex $200,000,000.00 Langley Township type of budget!
This also proves to this Editor that without any audience or press present their unprofessional self serving good old boys club style shines through brightly. Just as demonstrated in the other quotes as attributed to them in Richter's previous two postings.
Their collective lack of strong brain power, lack of common sense and not the least, their incompetent financial abilities is just astounding.
No wonder we will see a doubling of our taxes in 10 years if we keep electing them!
Why does our local press protect these elected officials after they say these stupid things and in some cases they never say anything at all, all year long and year after year! Why does the press not inform the public about these Councillor performances or rather lack of performance? The local press are wholly to blame that they get elected term after term! Because they misrepresent through omision what they individually and collectively are, do, and don't do. But then perhaps they are in the old boys club too. And you wonder why an LFP arises!
LOCAL PAPER PUBLISHERS NOTE - We would not have the large volume of ever growing readers for these local types of blog/news/commentary if your editors motivated your reporters do their jobs better!
My question is, was this meeting recorded, as this Editor believes the authors of these quotes should be quoted. Cllr. Richter is being far to fair to them by not revealing who said what.
I for one would like to know the names of the commenting councilors.
Please flush them out.
Methinks, apparently these special budget meetings are not recorded! Ask the Councillor's who attended to link the names to the quotes! Which one'syour favorite?
On a related but side issue, I was shocked when I first moved to Canada that municipal taxes have to be paid in lump sump. In the UK I paid using a direct bank transfer on a quarterly basis (or maybe it was monthly, my memory fails me) with no penalties for doing so. That was the norm. There would have been a rebellion if people were asked to pay it all in one go!
It's easy to take something for granted if "that is how it has always been done", but believe me from the perspective of a former outsider it seems completely ridiculous to expect people to come up with such a huge amount of cash in one go, or else be charged for taking a loan!
Geez, Albert Silent Slate council(ASS) doesn't know were to cut costs to reduce taxes????

Hey Kurt start with the Councils tax funded DENTAL & HEALTH COVERAGE.
These twits on council voted themselves 2 PAY RAISES in 1 year, and they keep a straight face on raising OUR taxes.
And 'the other blog' has the nerve to refer to the reason they can spend is because "one of the great legacies of the Scholten tax freeze was a lean Township with no debt".

Stupidest is absolutly the wrong word and should never have been suggested.
Perhaps least effective or even better yet, which councillor has become the most effective. And what has that person dne to deserve that honour.
