"It's going to take people like me pushing the rest of council, one idea at a time, to make some hard choices." Quote from CLLR. Jordan Bateman on his LP WRC posting.
I guess this explains why Jordan's first decision as a new Councillor was to make and help pass the motion to pump an additional $1.2 million into the already over budget white elephant Grandstand! (a modest amount if you are into 4.95% annual tax increases!)
It probably also explains why Bateman is now so fast to keep throwing mitigating 4.95% to 4.99% tax increases on the table each year!
Would you call a politician who constantly says things like " It's going to take people like me.." narcistic? The key word is "me - me - me" ! Maybe he should copyright it. Just like Paris Hilton's "that's hot".
Obviously there is an 'I' in Cllr. Bateman's TEAM.
This was just too hard not to comment on Blair! (I tried).

Let's hope Rich keeps a tight control of the costs in construction. So far this council has failed to keep on budget on any projects. If history repeats itself, this council averages a 113% overcost, therefore our share should end up between $34 million to $60 million after it's complete. Hold on to your check books folks here we go agian

Another taxpayer subsidized building for Jordan to hold Church Services?
That should be worth $50 million

The ? is if it goes over $45M to your suggested $50m who eats the $5m overuns? What gave you the 113% overun % ? The Grandstand was way more than 113%!

LFP, I don't agree with a lot of Jordan's opinions (and beliefs), but I don't agree with ad homs and negative publicity either. We all occassionally need to vent some steam, but in general I think your opinions would come across better if you said the same things in a less antagonistic way.

You're right Quaker! To be fairer, I did forget to mention that the rest of the boys on Council also went along with Bateman on an additional $1.2m for the white elephant over budget Grandstand.

I can't believe you could take such a good news announcement and spin it into an attack on Rookie councillor Bateman. This blog should not be called LFP but SJB (Slam Jordan Bateman)
Kim, it must be very difficult for you and not very gratifying to have to sit on the same coucil bench as Jordan every single week. What do you have against the guy? It really does sound personal.

Servant, who is your master? At least this Editor trys to be amusing and irreverant at times compared to others darn right sometimes mean biases against our LFP's webhost provider in the past herein. I never recalled Cllr Richter ever pointing any barb directly at any one Councillor. The Council as a whole is another matter though, you betcha she certainly does that! If people don't like her, this Editor, LFP or our other contributers, that's their choice. They live with it. We all live with what we don't like too. Like we we all have to live with 77% tax increases!
This Editor on the other hand has been known to question individual Council member's political statements, actions and motives. If anyone has a problem with that so be it as well. So sorry.
This Editor's flavour of the day has changed and will continue to change given any council members political actions and statements that can not go unnoticed & unchallenged. If this Editor does not, who will. LP certainly does not do this any more! Unfortunately some council members just never stick their head up far enough to be noticed! Maybe they are just asleep! They generally seem to this editor to stick together in a mutual groupthink mode!
In fairness Cllr. Bateman does at least speak out more individually as of late. And this at the very least is very commendable and an encouraging sign. I have said before and say it again that we hope that he rises above the apparent established silent slate old boys club Council groupthink. We can only hope. Before being elected this Editor thought that he was as equally concerned about this Council's groupthink! But this editor has some great difficulty and disagreement now with a lot of his political actions, alliances and motives since being elected. And this editor makes no bones about pointing out his concerns. Who else would, certainly not the local media.
Now back to business though, once again I for the last time implore you to address the issues. Tell us where the $15 million for the WRC is coming from? Why dont you ask some of the Masters!
Both, Cllr. Bateman and Mayor Alberts publicly are singing off the same song sheet on this one. They say the $15 m is not being borrowed and no tax increases will result and it comes from 'reserves'! Pray tell, reserves come from taxes don't they? Some may call this a council poltical/financial shell game? It was attempted on the Grandstand fiasco as well. That was also a good news story that cost taxpayers an additional $2 plus million and counting!
Worse still this Editor thought all of Township's reserves were pretty much exhausted on the recently newly built $20 million Township hall! Where is this sudden money tree of reserves coming from? Attempt to address this. Was this irreverant enough?

Maybe having the province involved will help keep the lid on cost overruns. With Kurt's record, we better hope so.
