The fact that snow removal in the township was a failure, and became a sore point to bitch about lately says a lot to me. Over the last many years, whoever runs Langley Township (Staff or Council?), has turned most of their attention to the nice things that look good on a post card, and they have turned their backs on providing basic services that we can all appreciate. I'll list just a few.
An elaberate city hall that many a corporation would shun because of the cost. Nice furnishing too.
A golf course that was there to begin with. That was in the ALR to begin with. That the Township had control over a release from the ALR in any case!! That was a lulu.
A $6 million blob of cement in McCloud Park that ran over budget like nothing I have ever seen before. Anywhere!!
A sweet heart lease of .24 cents a foot at Langley Airpoprt that was way under competetive rates, with another sweetheart escalation rate that's way better than residential tax increases now, in the past, and in the future!!
I'll leave a few blanks for others who feel the same.
Incidentley, how long will take before we suckers to hear a familiar song when the new Wiloughby arena starts to hit the cost overrun phase? Remember, other government contributions are locked in and safe. The township has the can tied to their butt when bells, whistles, additions, changes etc send this venture through the roof.
Now back to the ill repaired and availability of the township snow plows. Yup, it's just a bit of infrequent snowfall, but it's also just an example of inattention to services that make municipalities work as they should. Who the hell runs this township? It for sure isn't Alberts and his band of merry
men. They refer everthing to staff, and staff doesn't seem to know which way is up, starting with the engineering department. The township need an enema, and the hose should be fitted to Alberts first.

I'm with you there, Methinks! And speaking of snow....I recall Richter bringing up in Council about all the yellow reflectors that were snowplowed off the roads(on the ones they did do) and they were getting 'staff' to look into putting recessed ones in that would be permanent and not affected by road clearing. Staff came back with 'it would be too expensive and it would be cheaper to keep replacing them'. Well, guess what, I know why its cheaper because they just don't bother replacing them. I've been tripping on them and they're all over the place, everywhere but where they should be. Much cheaper!
While we're on Alberts I have to say someone came up to me today and asked what the horrible stench is on 16th Ave., they didn't realize that we're the lucky recipients of a 'mushroom composting operation'. After all the krap the residents went through in Surrey and they finally got rid of the mushroom composting operation, our illustrious mayor??? puts his stamp of approval on one for South Langley. I'll just bet that if it was anywhere near Fort Langley it wouldn't have got his consent.
Perhaps this is his way of getting back at South Langley for so many not chosing him as mayor. In the South Langley precinct he barely beat Tom Oulette, who was a virtual unknown, and did not have a lot of time to campaign.

That's a good point willy. I don't live near that stench, but I pass through it occasionally. The last I heard about this issue was that the township was after the owner to live up to the standards set out when it was licensed to operate. That stench has been persistent for months. Go figure.
I also remember how that mushroom compost operation slipped through everyone's notice because it was after all on ALR property, and it fell under the right to farm act. There was no mention of it until sombody asked what the inocuous looking plastic huts were. The neighborhood was never given a chance to fight this one, which they could have easily done. The funny part is that Charlie Fox lives almost on the doorstep of the operation, but the wind usually blows North, which is away from his nose. You'll just have to hold your breath Willy, 'cause the township will stare at this one until the complaints just fade away. Right Charlie?

Actually the complaints won't go away as I continue my persuit of a solution....either shut it down permenantly or get the issue resolved so it actually functions like it is supposed to. In fact recently with the still air the smell has been evident at my house and I have made those invovled in the issue aware. This operation was in place when I arrived on the Council unfortunately but I will continue to be dilignet for sure!

It's good to hear from you Charlie. I think the folks in South Langley are aware that you were not on council when the composting operation was passed as though on carpet slippers.
It would be nice if more members of council would pqrticipate on the local blogs, as do Bateman and Richer. So far it looks as though it's beneath the dignity of some councilors to interact with constituants who don't get out to meetings, and get little or no quality information from the local papers.

The part I can't understand about this stench is, I thought they were closed down to operation unless they were in compliance. If they were in compliance, according to the powers that be, there is not supposed to be any stench. Something is wrong with this picture. Thanks for showing the interest Charlie, and lets get rid of this nauseating wretched smell.

Congratulations are in order to Charlie on his retirement. Heck Charlie, you may be able to turn into Detective Clousteau, and get to the bottom of this horrible stench now, with so much time on your hands.
