This Editor bets you that the "good ole boys" on Langley Township will need prompting to honour Muriel "ADEQUATELY".
If you have any other good suggestions for our poll, fill in the "other" blank to submit it on our poll.
I have been told that at one time there was consideration to honour her by naming the council chambers/presentation center after her. Apparently she really loved that idea when it was pre-viewed with her. It never happened! Wonder why?
The real measure of "the boys" on council in this decision will be great. Not just out of respect for Muriel but for all women in public service and for all women period in Langley!
Maybe we should also have a poll about what the "good ole boys" will consider "adequate"?

LFP Editor your remarks are an embarrasment to the legacy of Muriel and her family. You have politicized a very emotional and unfortunate family loss. Muriel championed womens rights, women in politics, she was the voice of the little guy the unfortunate, she spoke up for those who needed to have a voice and she worked diligently for the underpriviledged. She was a founding member of the Christmas Bureau but she sure didn't vote for the projects you have suggested. In fact she voted against each and every 'big' project and was proud of her record on that account - so you want to name a building after her......get real! This is not only hypocritical on your part but a slap in the face for the family. Name a part of the proposed Gateway of Hope homeless shelter, rename the Christmas Bureau do something to honour the true individual she was....not a building! I sure hope the 'old boys' have more class in their suggestions to honour this truly valued individual than you have come up with.

The township will likely name another piece of School District property instead of something they own, just like they did last year.
Why use your own when you don't have to?
Old boys club or not, it's wasn't right but once again the school board lets Township roll right over them. Watch what happens to the students at RE Mountain when they gradually, over time, lose access to the gym at the new rec centre. It has happened at the Bell Centre as welll as other municipalities where partnerships have occured.
Eventually, the students get the short end of the stick, rehearsal time or practice time is shortened as access is gradually restricted - doesn't matter if there is an agreement in place -those expire.

If you choose "other" in our poll, please in the space provided fill in your "other" suggestion specifically. So far in other "A road" named after her or "Arnason Way" is listed as an alternative other or as an additional hounour.
75% of the "others" submitted had no suggestion. 25% had the suggestion of naming a road after her.

This discussion thread will obviously bring out political leanings (ergo Wink). So be it. If that is what it takes to honour her appropriately the first time out so be it again.
In this Editor's opinion we only have one shot at making sure it is done right for her. So Let's do it right for her, the first time out.
Keep in mind that to the best of my knowledge I am not aware of anything substantial ever having been named in the Township after a woman. Let's not blow this one boys! This is your chance to allay many concerns about biases and political agendas.
As Wink says Muriel was a first in many things in the Township. This Editor wants to make sure she is recognized appropriately and that we don't just simply name a meeting room or a gym after her in the Township city hall!
If you boys did that then YOU will have politicized the issue not the LFP EDITOR! I will even go out of my way to congratulate you boys for making the right decision on this and then eat crow. What's important to this Editor and her admirers is that we don't embarass the Township by not doing it right the first time! Make the right decision.

Wink you say "Muriel championed womens rights, women in politics, she was the voice of the little guy the unfortunate, she spoke up for those who needed to have a voice.." So name the council chambers after her since this is where she championed their rights longer than anyone else on council and probably longer than anyone else ever will.
Anything less would be a disgrace. Also name a road after her to. I suggest 208th street.

It should be a significant Park or even the proposed homeless center/shelter proposed for the Langleys.

Please write your suggestions in the line under other in the poll so that I can tabulate them too. A park, shelter, museum or similar are excellent ideas too. If you just say other without entering your alternative it is essentially a spoiled selection.
This poll gives YOU the option to enter your suggestion as well. I agree that a sports facility/arena would not probably be the best alternative.
