Since Cllr. Bateman was absent, any chance we can get a summary of how the big vote went down?
Blair, the vote was all the boys in favour of the 12 story religious temple steeple structure and only one (you quessed it, Cllr.Richter) against. Richter put forward an unseconded motion to refer it to staff to deal with the neighbour's concerns. Specifically traffic rerouting concerns, height and illumination especially steeple illumination concerns(lit up till 11 pm every evening). She was perhaps hoping to tone down the height and lighting and gave an example of having a manual dimmer capability provision. The old boys club members obviously did not want try to get concessions negotiated or even considered.
Early on Cllr. Bateman in a previous council meeting suggested that he was against hi rises so he would probably be against this 12 story steeple tower especially in a residential community. Too bad he was sick and did not attend the vote to record it! Hope he is feeling much better now! Wonder how many votes this congregation carries at election time?
An especially funny moment was when one of the many church followers who spoke for it, who lived in North Van, said he hoped he could see the lit up 12 story steeple all the way from North Van and that at least traffic on Hwy one would definitely see it!
Great, now at Langley's gateway at 200th and HWY 1 we will have 2 very large boldly lit monuments as a tribute to Langley's core values! Colossus at the NE and the temple steeple on the SE. This Editor suggests that Township Council needs two more such competing strutures on the NW and SW of the 200th interchange to make our Langley gateway portal complete! Maybe we can even get a brightly lit hi-rise version of Disneyland in the NW portal entrance area!
Remember the days when you sat in your back yard in the evening and it was dark and quite. Now there is walks right behind your fence for people to travel through the parks.
They look over and check out your back yard. There is enough light polution that it is never really dark enough to enjoy your candle light. The crime has increased so everyone has motion lights that blink on and off all night. I will stop now but it does bother me that I pay more taxes for all of this .........
How can any council member now vote against a high-rise development application? Developers must be salivating.

Anon, I am surprise you would think that. Jordan tends to be forthright about his votes and opinions, and regularly reports the division of votes in his blog.

Bateman stated on his blog:
"The 12-storey Mormon Temple passed third reading 7-1 (Richter opposed). The Yorkson Neighbourhood Plan, including provision for 12-storey buildings, was given unanimous third reading. I would have voted against both of these motions (as I did at first and second reading) because I do not support mid-rise or high-rise buildings."
LFP Editor: in another thread you asked me to commetn on the attempt to have our firsters and seconders removed form the record. I can't really add anything, you stated it all quite clearly. I am glad that vote was retaken (and the decision reversed) when KR and SF were present. It will be interesting to see if this is an important issue for voters next time around.
K.R., too bad the Steeple's congregation don't ever read LP nor LFP? Nor will local rags print Bateman's after the fact blog comment stance. Shrewd though, no votes lost from this congregation. But that is obviously the name of this game.
Kositski must have overdosed on his nasty pills. Besides being discourteous to Richter about her position on the towering steeple, he had the nerve to chide her on her absentee record. He is absent more than anyone, from where I sit. It's time Mel looked for other work, to give us a break from his ususl fence sitting performances, and his rude advice to other councilors.
Speaking of bad behaviour, Mr smoothie (Hizzhonor) actually shut off Richter's mike, but not Fergie's, who was voicing similar thoughts as was Richter. Merde, this man doesn't like anyone to oppose him unless he might need them later IMO. Thank god for Richter one who at least tries to get to the bottom of things. Is a little oposition that bad for a council with a bent for big spending.
What? Only four million more in loans for Kurt's golf course boondogle. Merde again! How much more over the next 20 years? Did someone say Impeach? Forget it. He's too slick.

In fairness, Bateman may have missed this vote due to illness, but he notes on his blog voted in opposition during first and second reading in previous meetings. This is consistent with his stance opposing the development of high and medium rise structures.
And LFP accuses the "JB vanity site" of spin.
JB has voted against the steeple in earlier readings (and it was reported in the local press).
I note also that there was no mention on LFP that KR and SF would not have been able to vote against removing the names of movers and seconders if it had not been for a motion put forward by the evil JB.
This site would be a lot more informative if you didn't have a pickle up your arse about one councillor.

PS, this Editor has a pickle with plenty more than one! Look to others on council for the biggest pickle! Sadly vain small pickles all wannabee big pickles too!
