The recent Advance editorial cartoon of tanks going endlessly, ridiculously round & round in a circular track was dead on. Their cartoon and even their veiled editorials seem to reinforce that the advance at minumum questions canada's mission there if not much more. When will they have the courage to in an editorial simply get out of the closet and simply say so?

Reading some of this editorial suggests that terrorism cannot be beaten. If that's the case maybe we should all become radical Muslims.

Do we just roll over and become dead infidels while the world continues to appease terrorists? Don't forget that there was a lot of similar talk when the Nazis were on their tear through Europe. They were thought by many to be indestructable, and who wanted to go to war anyway? Thank god there were enough to do so at the time.

Is there that much of a difference in what we see now, other than the times, the broadness of the map of terrorism, and our modern means of transport, communications and weaponry? Shall we just watch as the Jews of the world face another attempt at their extermination? No matter how much we complain and wring our hands with frustration, this threat to what we see as a civilized life style will not go away on its own.

Gravatar I think we must ask ourselves the question "is it better or worse for the people of the country since we participated"? By the majority of military analysts (even including some Bush backers in the USA) it has gotten much worse. Add to that how many of our young Canadians have lost their lives(for what?) I would say we should get the hell out of there and the sooner the better.

Having said this, it doesn't look good for any recall of troops in the near future, as Harpo has made a deal for tanks with the Germans that will have air conditioning etc. and its not a short term lease.

Gravatar Queenie, I can see how you feel about the loss of those lives, but yours and my life is not worth squat in the eyes of these extremists. We are infidels.

Beating them into submission will not solve the problem by itself, but it may be the only solution until the followers of Islam clean up their own act. We of other faiths and cultures, cannot tell them how to behave. Islam has to clean up their own act. That could take more years than we care to even think about, and right now the numbers of extremists are growing. With their brains functioning, and LOCKED inside the limits of the 9th or 10th centuary, I'm more than a little concerned that the problem will grow much bigger before it is solved..

I think that the stupidity of Bush's actions in Iraq has magnified the difficulty in trying to illiminate the Al Queda base in Afghanistan, but returning that home base to terrorists makes no sense. Besides, we have to realize that the war is not just in Afghanistan. It is in France, Germany, Belgium, England, Indonesia, and many other countries. A few of these countries have already lost more lives to Al Queda than we have lost soldiers in Afghanistan. That problem is still growing in Europe!

At the moment the head of the snake is right there in Afghanistan, and to pretend that leaving the scene will be the end of this conflict makes no sense at all.
