Kudos to Rick Green, council and Kathleen Stephany for moving this in the right direction. It's been swept under the carpet for too long, and we've all been made to understand, "you can't fight the system, you can't change the system, well, I'm happy to see that someone hasn't just accepted this and is trying to do something about it.

It seems that Mayor Rick Green's attitude of not rolling over and playing dead regarding our rights to the rail line through the Langleys, has payed off. It now looks like the ball is in B.C. Hydro's court. If they act as they should, and give residents in the Fraser Valley the advantage afforded them in the original contract, we might finally have ourselves the beginning of a workable commuter line again. Just think about the huge cost savings to be had.
It is not too difficult to connect the dots, and realise that the Provincial Government will have to get onside with B.C. Hydro if we are to get full advantage by having B.C. Hydro renew this contract for our benefit. So...the question is: Will CP Rail be allowed another FREEBY and be allowed to completely take over the old Interurban Line, or will the B.C. Government give the nod to B.C. Hydro allowing them to renew this contract, which is clearly in the interests of the people in the Fraser Valley? We should soon know whose best interests are being guarded.

It has been over 3 weeks and nothing new at the LFP. What's up????...... Personally, I have given up and have taken you off my favorites, onto the next political blog I guess!!!!
Edited By LFP EDITOR - GOOD RIDDANCE! I notice you have absolutely nothing to write about elsewhere when LFP goes fishing! LOL!! I just came back from a 2 week deep sea fishing experience and am pumped with a big mounted trophy! Apparently I missed nothing anyway other than the 2 mayors and MP getting their legs waxed. WOW! I Note that the two Langley Provincial Lib duo & their council supporters who helped them win stayed away from this one!. LOL ---LFP EDITOR---

Yes Lois, we will certainly soon find out if the residents in the Valley will be treated with the full respect that they desrve. I say this, because there is absolutely no reason to accept the fact that Victoria was not aware of the contract that B.C. Hydro had regarding this ever-so-valuable asset. Shame on them, and CP Rail.
Now Mr. Falcon, do what you should have been doing for us all along. It is your job in case you don't remember.
I hope we all remember that RICK GREEN, the mayor of a relatively small community fought and won this otherwise abandoned battle to regain this piece of our heritage. This he did without any help from the majority of his council members. Perhaps somebody will list them by name. Frankly I don't want to remember any of those quitters.
Fassbender, should be politicallyashamed. IMO, You did not look out for your people on this one.

Every community from Surrey to Chiliwak should be giving Mayor Rick Green a pat on the back for his difficult task of unlocking the secrets of what what was not thrown into the trash bin after the old Interurban was disbanded.
I have been out of the province for some time, and therefore not up tp date on the story of how Rick Green finally gave us back our commuter route. I think one of the major newspapers should cover this whole event in depth. I'm sure that there is a good story in the event, because so many of Falcon's friends on council and elsewhere just caved in too quickly, and claimed that the fight was lost.

Real Estate Market is heating-up again. I expect we will see the development applications starting to pop up in front of council again.
I wonder if this council will have a more up-front approach to land & developments than the last one? Will there be any more "secret" land sales & pandering to developers/wealthy landowners? I wonder if they will treat reputable members members of the public with any more respect & honesty?
..tis to be hoped. I am sure we shall find out over the next few months.

The clock is ticking loudly and we are getting too close to the August 29 deadline to renew the agreement on the rail line usage imo. What the heck is wrong with Victoria? Can they not see the benefit to the people of the Fraser Valley by simply taking advantage of an existing agreement. On the other hand, maybe they will just ignore this opportunity, and let time run out. After all, it may not agree with their grand and costly master plan that so far has no real form.

Oops! A little checking of the facts has revealed that the August 29th deadline is no longer an issue. The agreement has been signed and the Fraser Valley is now assured that commuter rail can be developed using this corridor. CP Rail no doubt has their nose out of joint over this, and I suppose this is one of the few issues that they have lost for over a century.
Mayor Green should be very proud of what his thorough investigation of the real facts about the status of the old commuter rail line has produced. Not only that, but all of the other Fraser Valley communities that can benefit by this rail line being reopened as a commuter line can applaud Mayor Green's efforts. I personnally am amazed that such a simple solution could be the answer to the valley's long desire for commuter rail. The cost savings by using the best parts of this corridor are beyond measure.
