Mary, don't feel too bad even Langley was not promised skytrain or equivalent LRT despite what MLA Mary Polak said by 2030! It's a pipe dream even in Langley!
This was all carefully crafted to re-elect the Libs, build Vancouver's broadway and coquitlam LRTs and give us some pathetic false hopes in the south fraser valley. I especially loved the distant Langley use of the new retooled bus as a fast bus service. lol!!!
Doublespeak at it's best!

This Editor awaits a political visionary Provincially or Federally that will champion a public transit train route through to Langley, Abbotsford to Chiliwack (sooner than later)from the new West or Burnaby skytrain. European countries have extensive & frequent public train transit routes. Why don't we? This would be a great economic driver for the Fraser Valley And BC. Where are the visionaries?

LFP, the lack of foresight intensifies when you consider that there is a rail line in existance this very moment that comes close to completing that route. I am referring of course to the old BC Electric route. The right of way just sits there waiting to be upgraded with today's technology and rolling stock, but we never hear a peep from Kevin Falcon et al about it.
I believe that it makes sense to allow a private rail company to redevelop it, and give them a 30 or 50 year lease on the route before B.C. Transit has the right to buy them out. If we have to wait 20 or 30 years for Victoria gets a move on, it makes more sense to get on with it now, and in this manner.
Meanwhile we have influential MLAs in the Valley who hjave all all spouted off about the importance of transportation, yet they continue to sit on their thumbs. Will they ever put their money where their campaigning mouths are?

So Tinkle why the H@#L do we keep re-electing our Fraser Valley MLAs and MPs who do twat for us when we really need it. It infuriates me even more to see the pure propoganda B.S. of a whole couple of thousand dollars of tax payer paid monies going out for a whole page two local newspaper layout ad for MLA Mary Polak this week that essentially says nothing other than reminding the voters who the heck she is!
Where is she on rapid transit NOW for us? She's part of this generation damm it! Not 2030 and beyond to Star Trek land where no man (or woman) has gone before! Mary P. get with the program ! Stand up to the boys in the legislature finally and speak up for our needs aggressively...please! Damm the paycheck & security and simply keeping YOUR version of good ole boys network happy! Do your job Mary! Fight for us! Do a Carole Taylor at least!
Heck it could be worse though. Sell-out "Boy Wonder" who is chomping at the bit to become an MLA could be our MLA! Brrrrr..... dread the thought!

LFP, what you say is all too true. Personal ambitions seem to always take precedence over what's good for the general public. I do recall Mary Polak stating that improved transportation was what she was keen about. She should explain her apparent loss of interest, but let's not hold our breath for her to do so.

Tinkle look to Township council too where only one councillor, Richter, has stayed true to the taxpayer first. Even the two newest members bought in to the Mayor's slate for a virtual 8-1 vote every time. These 8 are all political self-serving sellouts.

I was at the Chamber meeting and you folks including Richter just don't get it - WE WILL NOT GET RAPID TRANSIT TO LANGLEY OR THROUGH LANGLEY UNTIL WE DENSIFY - plain and simple. Who voted against highrises/density Richter. She is the master of her own fate. LFP Editor you need to pull up your boot straps and realize this Liberal and any NDP gov't won't provide transit to areas that can't fill buses yet let alone Skytrain. If Richter wants votes from informed folks she needs to undertstand and value this equestion.....
density = rapid transit.
P.S. Anonymous - reading the minutes, MOST of this Council (including Richter's two amigos as well as the two new guys) voted for the High Rise bylaw in understanding it was necessary to get rapid transit and skytrain to this area!

Wink, your rationale about increasing the population density has been mentioned before by some bloggers, but you must remember that the completion date of any transit facility suitable to the task, would be finished at about the same time that township density increased by another 30 or more percent.
Another point is that Mission has a fast and efficient commuter system to downtown morning and night, and the population density is a fraction of Langley's. Ironically, Victoria gets ripped off big time to provide the service as well.
