Interesting video and comments. It is a shame though these "INFLATIONARY FIVE" councilors in favor of nailing us with a 5% increase over and over again, have not given us a more detailed reason for their foolishness and lack of innovative understanding. Frankly I don't believe they have the talent to do so.
Councilor Bateman says he can't see it (the .93% increase working. That's just not enough reason to opt for his 5% increase as an option when there is so much at stake. Try again fella. Numbers are difficult to hide, unless there is difficulty in comprehending.
Councilor Ferguson just seems to be hung up about the fact that there was not a public gathering to witness revealing all the budget information of each department line by line. In reality the depth of this study would be boring and tedious, besides being virually unnecessary. It was explained to all of us that there were no cuts to services, but Fergie could not find it in himself to trust the calculations of those who understand these things better than he. Incidentally, Fergie seems to have absolutely no talent for budgeting anywayin my opinion, and his frustration is showing perhaps. This could be the real reason that his nose is so far out of joint.
I am not aware of comments made by the others of THE INFLATIONARY FIVE, but I expect no improvement in their understanding of how Mayor Green intended to relieve us tax payers.
So what is the rational behind the choice made by these councilors in sticking to the 5% increases that were decided last year? My answers to that include IGNORANCE OF THE FACTS, POLITICAL POSTURING WITHOUT REGARD FOR THE CONSEQUENCES, AND ONCE AGAIN, COMPLETE DISREGARD FOR THE OPINION OF THIR CONSTITUENTS WHO FEEL THE REAL ECONOMIC PRESSURES OF THE TIMES.
One year in the life of TOL at a 1% increase in property taxes could easily put this whole matter to rest. In future years the economy is headed for improvement and TOL revenues will increase accordingly. In the meantime the mayor's plan regarding a township real estate trust fund can develop into a working strategy. Here again though, resistance to this trust fund is purely political in my opinion, and the residents of the township could be denied this, and any other innovative ideas, as long as this backward thinking group of councilors remain.

Lois Lane,
Are you forgetting that Bateman and Fox tried to get a motion passed to amend it to 3.95% But Richter and Green would not vote for it.
Green and Richter pretend what they want for the tax payers is lower taxes, but when given the chance to make it 3.95% instead of 5% they sat silently. Lowering taxes eh..... Really?? Come on!!!
This is a game of you won't vote for mine, I won't vote for yours.... Really... GROW UP!!!!

I'm not sure how you performed in math there 'Really', but .93% is what Richter and Green wanted and thats quite a substantial difference from 3.95%...I wouldn't have voted for it either.
Don't worry, the taxpayers of TOL know who the big spenders are that need the high tax increases, and they will hold their feet to the fire come next election.

Really, you are quite right about one thing. I will definetly not vote for those you seem to favor. When they learn a little more about how to run an enterprise with a budget the size of the TOL, they should maybe then only consider running for the office they now hold. For now we are plain stuck with these INFLATIONARY FIVE for the nex couple of years plus. Ugh!

Really??? seems not to understand that the finance committee came up the figure of a .93% increase and that's what Green and Richter believe would run the township this coming year. Why would they choose the 3.95% option if the .93% option was a sufficient increase? "Really" needs to change his moniker again to "Confused". That might explain why he would like to pay more taxes every year.

.93 was not an option, they could not have voted on it. The 3.95, however was an option that they could have voted on, they chose not to. They did not have to do it happily and they most certainly could have spoke to that, stating they wanted the .93 but given that that was not an option, the 3.95 was what they would support, as they had promised the tax payers to lower taxes and the was obviously the lowest option available to them to vote on. Why they would not do that, make no sense. That was just bad politics and obviously they were just holding a grudge!!! Certainly not looking out for the Township residents best interest!!!

Really, you just don't get it. The 3.95% option was in my opinion just a political act by Bateman and his politically joined-at-the-hip pal Fox. Bateman played the same stunt a number of years ago when he proposed shaving the budget of the day by a few points to 4.95%.
If the mayor and Councilor Richter had calculated that a .93% tax increase was sufficient, why would they get sucked in by somebody less informed and suggesting that the township tax payers should be nailed again for more money. Get real.
Is you money burning a hole in your pocket Really???
