Bateman obviously put the raffle ad on his own website because it says "posted by Jordan Bateman @9:47AM".
It even starts off with his personal comments saying. "As an old newspaper reporter I..." and only 2 more very short preamble sentences before the controversial raffle fundraising ad.
Looking at the small ad it screams out "Raffle prizes to be won". You can't miss it even at a glance. It's dead center right under the attention getters, "Coleman", the "$60.00" price and "Raffle prizes..".
How can an experienced writer/reporter not see the word raffle and not understand what a raffle is? Today's Advance writes up the same excuses again.
Given the capabilities and knowledge of the two Langley Politics partners one would have expected the experienced writer, Jordan Bateman to have written the words/proof and Sam Kirk to have used Photoshop or equivalent for the graphic set up! Re: "young guys on the team.." comment. I always thought that those two were pretty young! Don't you think?

For ALL you great LFP commenters information. This Editor has had to now switch to a screened & moderated comments approach. The outstanding recorded through the roof dramatic growth of our viewers, especially over the past few months is one reason. Especially considering that about 70% plus are from the Langley area now! There are so many more viewers now reading LFP that some don't always remember to respect the fact that objectionable content can be malicious and harmful at times. Your fair comment, especially irreverant and funny and educational is especially always welcome and encouraged.
The second reason is that we especially lately have had some very big stories that have elicited great passion and also passionate and angry comments too. Most, rightfully so in fact! We fully expect that there may not be as many comments as a result of this change. But I guarantee you that it will not change our primary LFP focus of our columns and columnists, who are doing a great job in providing the best alternative real behind the scenes viewpoints available in the the Langleys! Great thanks and kudos to them! Our focus remains and always will be to primarily provide you this only true alternative available in Langley today.

Can some one explain how the Bateman raffle issue hits both THE PROVINCE and THE ADVANCE papers yet not one peep or reference about it out of BATEMAN'S own LANGLEY POLITICS nor one peep out of any of his obviously partisan groupee commenters on either site?
Maybe the truth hurts?
Note Bateman's website now says WE made a mistake! It took over a week to change from they to we. Some still wonder it it should really be I? You can see it yourself on his site;

All this still in my mind does not connect well with Bateman's own comments dated mere hours after you at LFp broke the Martin gambling complaint where you quote Bateman saying;
"..the invite posted here is now out of date. Sam and I were thinking about a raffle (which we would have only done if we had been issued a licence), but decided after this rendition of the invitation that a modest auction would be a better fit for what we have planned."
Where's the they or we in this statement?
Also he clearly says he would have done a raffle! A raffle is gambling (as clearly defined by law) no doubts about it and yet he pontificates against gambling! I wonder if he can also spell sanctimonious?
