I'd like to make a comment about the home for addicted women that is now planned for the 400 block of 216th Street.

Firstly, it is probably a good thing, and I doubt whether anyone would be seriously against it. That said, I don't think that the council should SLAM DUNK the project and give it a clean pass regards zoning, until the nearby neighbors have a more detailed explanation of this project..

So perhaps it is a given that everyone in the neighborhood accepts the concept,....but what are they accepting EXACTLY??? One question that should be answered is: How big will this home grow? Remember, we're talking about 45 acres here!

The apparent solution by the mayor and his well coached followers, is to have a barbeque after the opening(?) Only then apparently will we perhaps know the full scope of the project. The horse will have left the barn by then though, so I guess once again, the opinions of the folks of South Langley don't mean a damn. Nothing new about that huh?

Gravatar You couldn't be more on the money Methinks. Everything that South Langley gets thrown at them is done without any concern or heeding of their doubts or opposition.

We have the stench of the mushroom compost, we have the humps plastered on 0 Ave diverting all the traffic onto 16th Ave, which I might add has had 2 more intersection accidents today(one at 240th and 16th and one at 256th and 16th)we have the 10 acre clearcut/10,000truckloads of fill, it just goes on and on. The residents of South Langley are now becoming so cynical that most of them refuse to go to any open houses the Township offers because they say it's just formality and even though they give their imput, the township just doesn't listen or respond to their concerns.

Gravatar As I understand it Willy, the zoning parameters on this property were adjusted a bit to accomadate this operation. Since the cause is a necessary one, the good people of the township will not object beyond asking for more information, but they are not having an easy time with that simple request are they?

There was NO good cause involved in the mushroom composting decision that council never raised a finger to give residents any input on prior to its development. Now what will be done to unscramble the egg that was laid?Alberts' way!!!

The carnage on 16th Avenue reminds me of the attitude of Emperor Nero who fiddled while Rome burned. Emperor Alberts seems blind to the bloodshed caused by restricting traffic on Zero avenue, thus loading 16th avenue beyond its capability. How does this guy sleep at night?

Gravatar Just an added comment regarding the home for addicted women. If the local people are not better informed about the limits of further development of this home, they are not being short changed. Everyone in South Langley would appreciate knowing for example, if this property will also serve addicted men. It would also add to their comfort if they knew whether if might at some time even become a Halfway House. That's exactly the sort of thing that can happen when a municipality bends the zoning rules slightly. Meanwhile the surrounding neighbors face a possible devaluation is perhaps the most valuable asset that they own...which is their homes.

I would never accuse the adjacent property owners as common nimbys. They have expressed their civic responsibilities already I believe, but they are for sure entitled to a full explanation about the future of what is now slated for a home for addicted women. I would also expect that the government will want to get the best bang for their buck, and who knows what that might eventually be?

The township council has the responsibility of being completely open about something of this nature. I cannot fathom the reason for their quick decision to delay further information until after the fact.

Gravatar It's called my way or the highway Alex.
