Mobilize the community & change the School Trustees is your tried & true action to create change! Remember only 16 months till the next election. Mobilize NOW. All bad self serving Politicos fear public opinion. There are quite a few of them in the Langleys

I agree that the middle school is not the option here. I wonder why there is not as much uproar about Aldergrove Secondary?

I do not think you will like my opinion of how to attain the continuity and stability.

I believe one facility must be closed there appears to be four that should be deliberated about. I will leave it to the public what four that should be. I also believe that a complete change of board is required and it should be amalgamated to avoid this politics of City and Township. Don't forget that for voter parity the city should only elect one Trustee. I would rather see them having a say on all 7 or 5. AMALGAMATE THE BOARD for the next election.

If it held true that the board has to sway to what the voters want the City would only be able to have 2 votes. The way this is going the Township would not wish to lose any of their secondary schools so guess who would win.

The School District currently has 8 secondary school programs which means the city has 8 secondary schools to offer to it's taxpayers.

ss.

The board hasn't been voting along municipal lines. You are only promoting dissension with your comments.

Tell me, why should schools bother to denounce bullying when parents are so quick to demonstrate the opposite to their children?

If you "leave it to the public" as you say, please remember that the public elected this School Board!

I am not creating dissension. The point about leaving it to the public is that there has been four mentioned. If you attend the meetings you would know that. DW Poppy, Langley Secondary, HD Stafford and Langley Fundamental Secondary Middle. I am stating an opinion as you are. SO are you creating dissension? The city residents are the ones screaming about city and township lines not me. It is not the Township mayor attending the public meetings now is it?
I believe th

I believe that to have the least dissension the board of Education ballot must be amalgamated. This will create voter parity better than reducing the city to one seat.
There has also been mention that if the City is to hold a seat, what about Fort Langley, Aldergrove, and Walnut Grove. They have 1400 voters to vote in a Trustee. Now that is telling the whole story of what is out there. That is why I say Amalgamation of the ballot is the best way to go. OK you are allowed your opinion as I am mine.

The HD Stafford contingent responsible for the acts at the last board meeting were acting as bullies. Shame on all the rest of us that stood by and watched.

SS: I am not sure what you would have had the rest of us do. There were those of us who went up to the front and tried to calm down the shouter, particularly the ones who were hurling the insults at the senoir staff members who remained behind. There were security staff on hand and there were also police in the parking lot (as least there were earlier). If things had gotten out of hand, the properly trained people had been put in place to deal with it.

Thanks for your reply ss.

It seems that you prefer amalgamation but,in your post you promote a Ward system. In my opinion, the later might be prefered, in our community of communities.

OK the structure of the board to a ward system is not the best. I would think Regional would be better for then there would be more money for direct student services instead of it going to politicos.

Just to remind people:
Aldergrove Elementary with an enrolment of 277 students is closing at the end of June.
In all likely hood Bradshaw elementary school with an enrolment of 249 will also close.

I wish the best for those students in their transition to their new schools. I wish them the brightest of futures. I would like to thank these parents for showing the students how to face adversity, challenges and change.
I would like to applaud all those students, parents and staff for showing that when consultation truly happens things can be accomplished for the betterment of all the students

Gravatar Whole diff. scenario wth the Bradshaw vs.Stafford closure. This middle school concept is not a re-configured deal.It is a closure of a thriving-fine arts, healthy enrollment. We do not have under 70% capacity happening.Bradshaw parents/community wanted to keep thier students/families together&going to one school. The senior management had no problems wth that.It didn't interfere wth any of their plans for that area, other than closing Bradshaw.Of course they would go along wth what Bradshaw wanted,as it was only obvious. Air.

Gravatar Other than a middle school how about making it a Langley Fundamental Fine Arts Secondary with LEC going to DW Poppy? Then you would have loads of students wishing to attend you would be able to accommodate the current fundamental students from DW Poppy at HD. Which would create enough room for the LEC students.

The community wouldn't have to fight for everything they have.

LSS could close and the Township could buy the building for its caretaker for McLeod Park. They could also offer Parks and Recreation courses there too. Then move the sports programs from LSS to HD and the students could be transported by School Bus to Mcleod Park to use the Township fields.

The current Langley Fundamental Secondary Middle school could be a junior 5, 6, 7 and the Fundamental elementary could be a K to 4 that would clear up all the waitlist for that program.

Make it all effective September 2007 instead of looking at 2008. This would save a few elementary schools in the Central region. That way HD would have all that they want and more. Fine Arts, AVID, Football, Soccer, Hockey, Golf, etc., I’m getting more like Herb every day reading all this stuff

Gravatar CBC morning radio yesterday had a debate apparently between Trustee Chair Steve Burton and a grade 10 Stafford student. Heard a small clip from it this morning. Powerfull! I think you can go to CBC radio vaults to replay it in it's entirety.

Gravatar "CBC morning radio yesterday had a debate apparently between Trustee Chair Steve Burton and a grade 10 Stafford student."

So yesterday would be May 29, 2007 - what time of day did you hear it?

Gravatar Disregard my question. I managed to find the link and have posted it to my own blog (click on "Homepage" below).

Gravatar BTW, it's interesting that you and so many others are able to come up with plausible options when the district adminisration can't. Imagine if you were offering solutions because your children were about to be robbed of the educational experience they have come to love. Imagine again, that some bureaucrats sit regarding you with bored expressions and closed minds while you desparately tried to reach them. Now you may be coming close to understanding the frustration of the Stafford parents.
