Cathleen makes some good points. It's a shame that there can't be some formula that would leave room for those who less guilty than others for the same crime. There's just no yardstick to do that though, but there's plenty of room to improve the system.

I would like to see where the admission of guilt must be communicated before parole is granted. I really see no point in that process.

Another thing that would avoid punishment of the "less" innocent would be incarcerating repeat offenders. Piling up a long list of victims without firm punishment makes no sense to anyone.

Regards the cost of incarceration, there is also the cost of a life (victim) to think about as well in some circumstances. Noone has put an accurate price on that yet.

A good subject for discussion and ideas, but the legal community will not hear what the general public has to say.
