Gravatar I’ll bet you a cup of coffee that the situation doesn’t go down that way. The opposition isn’t ready for an election and as such something will be done to avoid the non-confidence vote. Why you say?

Well Dion still isn’t well known well enough by the electorate and the Liberals need at least a year of fund-raising to get anywhere near ready for an election.

The NDP is as good as they can get right now and Layton needs to get his base back before going into the next election as he has been bleeding support to the Liberals AND the Greens.

As for the Bloq, the Quebec election is going to be called any day now and the PQ is going to have their hands full because Bosclair is too unpopular and Charest has been bringing home the bacon recently. Since they shar organizationd the last thing the Bloq will want is an election immediately after the Provincial one as the coffers will be empty and the troops exhausted.

Most importantly, because we have waited too long to get started Canada cannot meet its Kyoto commitments without having to spend huge dollars on foreign emission credits (the last time I checked the numbers were over $10 billion worth by 2012). As a result the Conservatives will table a plan, as required by the legislation, and then proceed to vote against it. This will force the opposition to either vote to send $10 + billion to Russian oligarchs to buy hot air or vote against their own bill. In either case the Conservatives will be able to claim that they aren’t going to throw away billions to symbolically meet the Kyoto target when they could spend the money on a “made-in-Canada” solution.

Just one scenario but well worth a coffee I think.

Gravatar Bet ya your coffee there will be a spring election June, earliest May called. Latest polls show Lib & Cons. in a tie. Money is no object they just borrow more! Especially since Elections canada now funds the parties financially big time.

Gravatar My bet, no election until the fall at the earliest as it doesn't matter whether the Liberals or the Conservatives want an election. The Bloq and the NDP could prevent any non-confidence vote with a convenient "sick-out" or by finding some "principle" upon which they can support the government.

At this time Harper would have to poke Layton and Duceppe in the eye with a pretty sharp stick to force an election (not that I don't put it past him).

So a coffee bet it is!

Gravatar Your on!

Gravatar I was thinking that Harper would call the election after his budget, which I believe is scheduled for March 19th. After his performance in Parliament regarding the Liberal East Indian connection and influence, I have changed my mind and will wait and see. I have a feeling that Harper will come out the loser in this one.

The papers today, refer to the "Dark side" of Mr. Harper. I now believe that it really does exist, and there is a petulant self rightiousness note in his performance, that brings me back to the days when he was accused broadly of having a hidden agenda.

Since he lost my support when he broke his promise (lied) on income trusts, my eyeball is a bit more squinty when I look at Harper. I wish it were otherwise, because I have never voted Liberal in my life.

Gravatar I received a pamphlet from Warawa today that tries to atone for the fact that his boss (Harper) relieved thousands of pensioners of many thousands of their hard earned dollars when he broke his promise on income trusts. The pamphlet is aimed at pensioners of couse, and explains that their $1000 income tax credit has been doubled, and they can noe split their income. For many, including myself, this is a pithy amount of savings, that will never recover the losses caused by his Prime Minister's broken promise.

Not enough Mr. Warawa! What you need to do is explain why pou did not object to this income trust decision by Harper and Mr Flaherty. Shame on you for remaining silent.
