A blog actually doesn't take up too much time in a day. It seems to do for people who also have full time jobs.
I would advice starting a digg like service tailored for India. There are lots out there, but somehow, none have built the right community. For that you need a good editor who will also scour the net and chip in good stories for the first 2-3 months.
This could also be in the model of slashdot/my_netscape etc where there is some editorial control.
I think the best way is to set up a small shop of ebay. thats the only way to make sensible money. lots of cool stuff available in chennai.
