Where I come from, upright bass is an orchestra instrument... but I think the Stray Cats / Brian Setzer Orchestra uses one.
I was shocked that the band director was cool with it. Apparently, he'll be playing the tuba part.
He had his first lesson yesterday and said that his new teacher is a "fun sucker." That's because she cares about things like how you hold your arm, etc.
