I can so relate to living with whatever comes with the house, we are still renters so I'm still doing that. For the most part we have white walls, walls with nearly nothing hanging on them too, as patching holes when we do move would not be fun so we live with plain, very plain walls. Now your monkey wall paper sounds scary, for us it's the kitchen and the bathroom that have wallpaper, oh and the dining room too. In the kitchen we have some ugly country ducks on a border going around the top of the walls and then different wallpaper with stripes and flowers all over it. Two of the bathrooms have flowers and one has stripes. The dining room has flowers in clusters with small flowers too. (Flowers are everywhere!) I long for the day I can pick a paint color or wallpaper, but I'm leaning towards paint myself. For now I'm happy with the white walls, it could be worse. (Monkey wallpaper!)
Oh, when are you coming to Atlanta? How long will you be here? I'm wondering if I could meet you for dinner or lunch perhaps. We are only about 30-40 minutes from downtown Atlanta so it wouldn't take me long to zip on down there. Let me know.

I'm waiting until I have my own home to start painting walls. For now, plain will just have to do! 
Ivy, I'll be there from next Monday afternoon for 2 nights. They've got us working pretty long hours, starting at 8 a.m. (ugh!). I think the only thing I have to do Monday evening though is go to a meet-and-greet from 7 to 8. Maybe you could come out after that for a little bit?
Suki, plain is definitely much nicer than living with somebody else's color scheme. Even though we live on an Army post and don't own our homes, we are allowed to paint. I was happy with white until I saw what somebody else did with the same exact house.
Don't do it. Leave them be. Because the worst thing about gov't quarters (I assume you're in quarters...) is repainting on the way out!

The thing with paint is...you can always paint over it again! Easy peasy no big squeezy! (I don't knnow what that means...)

Chris, they're privatizing the quarters, and the word on the street is you don't have to paint them back to white anymore!
Karla, please come help me paint! I'm scared!! Plus, I can't paint right now anyway, because that would seal the deal on us moving next summer.
