If Ft. Knox had a university, its uniform regs could be called the FKU Dress Code.
I think the kids should wear uniforms like their primary role models, their soldier parents.
On second thought, maybe not--BDUs have cargo pockets, don't they?

Have fun with that! We went through all of that last year. What disgusted me was that the dress code problem was in middle school and not in elementary, and the powers-that-be tried to bring it down to the elem level. Also, what irritated me more was the fact that the admin was approaching the dress code issue to make it stronger, while at the same time, the teachers weren't enforcing the dress code already on the books. Hey, I have a novel idea - enforce what we have and see if it works first.

Gravatar LOL, Dad!

Teresa, we have plenty of problems with enforcement too. One reason is because the code is so long and addresses so many things that one could really spend an entire day doing nothing but evaluating kids' clothes.

Gravatar The dress code (or uniform as it has been called) was reviewed in 2004 when I was on the PTO. I headed up a team that looked at the code then and we simplified it (btw, our first thought was to eliminate the code altogether, but given that it had been implemented by the Superintendent when he was the High School principal, that was a no-go).
That dress code was passed by the School Board after much obstruction from the High School administration. However, the code we had passed never made it into the High School handbook.
One of the key problems right now, in addition to the Handbook being way too negative, is that that majority of ASTORs etc being given at the school are for dress code violations!
That right there should be a sign that the dress code is a negative and not a positive.
One last point: we had to synchronize the dress code at the High school and middle school levels, and needed to have input from the Middle School folks, which meant that any dress code changes were extremely hard to put in place as the Middle School folks were, by and large, happy with the code at that time.
Anyway, good luck!

Gravatar So much for kids showing their individuality. Good grief it appears they can wear nothing trendy.
As long as that dress code is, I wonder how anyone had enough time to make such a thing. Apparently who ever thought this up needs a life.
So sorry for such a mean post, but I find it to be a very silly document all about kids wear. This is the time children are suppose to be finding their individuality, and it seems they just want to put them all in neat compartmentalized boxes.
Sorry, Bonnie, that you have to put up with such stupidity.

Gravatar Canuck, that certainly explains why it's so hard to get things changed in this area. Aargh!

Heather, believe me, you didn't say anything I haven't said a million times already. Thanks for the support!
