Curious as to where in Alabama? I am originally from east Alabama, 40 miles up the Chattahootchee from Fort Benning in a town called Valley, formerly Riverview, Fairfax, Langdale and Shawmut.
Visited Benning a lot during WWII, my uncle being stationed there for 30 years. Then in 1957-58 I was stationed there and got married 49 years ago last month.
We stay in the quartels when we go up home to visit - pretty nice quarters.
I get the heebie-jeebies when I go there, sensing the ghosts of millions of fine men that have gone thru there and the so many that never made it back home.
ahhh, sorry for the ramble.

Bill, Fred's mom's family is from Dadeville. His parents were living in North Carolina for the past 15 years or so, but they just built a house right on Lake Martin. We're going back again this summer for their family reunion at the end of July.

Speaking of hats, what is the one Fred's wearing in the jump-pinning ceremony?

Annabelle, I love your hat. You look so pretty in it with your new hair do. Love,

Grandma, that's Fred's beret. A few years ago they went to wearing berets with most everything. It wasn't a wildly popular decision.
Mom, Annabelle is indeed a hat person!

Hey, if I knew you were going to Benning I would have asked you to pick up an afghan for me. Annabelle does look cute in a hat.

Oh, shoot, wish I had known you're in the market for an afghan! I'll bet we can figure out somebody who is there who can pick one up.
