How could they be so obviously disrespectful of the gathering and then expect everyone to give their ideas any respect? Some people are unbelieveable.

Well, they're on the side of the people with the money & the connections who've pretty much had their entire planning process greased by being sponsored by the Empire State Development Corporation & adored by Marty Markowitz & others in power:
"The project is also well insulated from direct public pressure. Because a state agency, the Empire State Development Corporation, is sponsoring the proposal, it will not have to wind through the city's labyrinthine land-use process, which requires input from the local community boards and a vote by the City Council" - Nicholas Confessore, NYTimes, 10/20/05
Think that sort of "in"-itude brings a certain level of arrogance - and I think that sometimes the people who are hanging on the coattails of the rich & connected don't know as well as the rich & connected themselves do that one does need to be at least a little cautious with the overt disdain for public opinion.
Although in today's USA it does seem like that level of tact on the part of the r & c isn't quite as well-understood as it may once have been.
Sigh.

Ugh...the rich and connected. People who wouldn't know the real world if it reared up and bit them on the ass.
