What a terrific philosophy. Something that should give all of us "type A" personalities pause for thought.

Well, I do wish I had more time.
Right now, I just don't - that's just how it is. It's not just the life-eating job, either - there are books I want to read, walks (and pictures!) I want to take, non-paddling friends I want to spend time with, and a very nice guy in CT who I also want to spend time with...
Sometimes tough to balance all that.
Beats sitting home bored though!

Wow. I could do a find and replace on this post with a few keywords and call it my own. I, too, struggle with the mixed emotion of "hey, how come doing what I love is so hard sometimes? Am I doing it wrong?"

Many of us are hoping you'll get assessed for your BCU coach2. I know the changes have made it dificult, but keep hounding them and you could get it this year.
It's a hard year for BCU coaches in the US. A year that will shake a few loose from the program because they can't keep up.
The professional coaches will hang on, but many of the amateur ones will drop membership.
There is talk that there are too many BCU coaches for the amount of students. One way to reduce that is to require more$ and time. This helps keep the professionals in business.
It's not that the amateur coaches are less qualified to coach, it's that they can't commit the time and money anymore.
The ACA and others starts looking more welcoming.
I still believe the BCU has the best assessment program, one that I wish the ACA, and other programs followed.

Er, perhaps I should rephrase -
Nobody's pressuring me but me.
And Stevie!
:D
I'm kidding, Stevie. It's not that I've given up on it entirely, it's just that although the club could use a couple more certified instructors, and that was our end of the bargain with the club-funded training, I don't think anybody expects anybody to give themselves ulcers over it, which is what I was beginning to do when I couldn't get any straight marching orders.
Like I said, though, there's a promising new development within the last couple of days, I just don't know how promising 'til I make a phone call & I don't wanna jinx it by going into details 'til I do.

WOWEE You are making me dizzy!!! Put the nice guy from Conn. at the top of the list! Keep your life simple and unencumbered. Nine miles is almost as good as ten. The last two nights I sailed with main and left the jib in the bag. Played my favorite Bob Dylan and Peter Paul and Mary casettes. And what is wrong with casettes? I had to swithch to casettes when my 8 track player croaked. I tried CD"S one time but they tasted funny , like plastic.

Oh yeah Bonnie, you knocked it out of the park with that post. An absolute pleasure to read.
P.S. You already know what I think about your goal.

Thanks for your post. It's so important to keep in mind that we get out on the water to get away from the rat race. When I windsurf I want to get away from the idea of competing, goals and stress. There's a joy of just being out on the water; that's what it's all about.
I had an online discussion with some other windsurfers about using an iPod while sailing. I thought it was silly, although others chided me for this. I think we already have too much technology. I want my sailing to be as calm and technology free as possible. I suppose if your out there for the adrenaline rush, go take your iPod and play thrash music while you sail. For me, no thanks.

Ian, glad you stopped by! I'd left a comment recently on Peconic Puffin saying I'd found this fun blog by somebody who windsurfs the Hudson but then I'd lost track of it.
I would never wear an iPod on the water. Don't need it, it's not a part of my boating experience, and besides, I want to hear the motorboats before they run me over!
