I own a pair of Virbram Five Fingers- and have awful bunions. The shoes are amazing! They feel JUST like walking barefoot- the uppers are stretchy and comfortable, leaving nothing to squeeze or press against your bunions, and the soles are a very thin, flexible rubber that moves with your foot. They do take getting used to- especially if you're not used to being barefoot (expect sore calves at first, and possibly blisters on the balls of your feet) but otherwise they're the best shoes I've ever owned.

I realize this is an old post but a comment is a comment :) I own 2 pair of these. Both are the type that are open at the top and have a simple velcro strap. I find the ones that have a drawstring in the back to hurt my achilles, I have bunion problems and have noticed that it doesn't hurt at the end of my work day if I wear these. REI carries "toe socks" but I've found if you are not careful with fitting the overall shoe and sock can prove too tight and hurt your bunion. (I believe the socks are from Injini (sp?)) The shoes are washable and a simple hang dry work just fine. My only complaint on these shoes is with pretty continuous wear the thin sole has worn down a little faster than i would have liked for my $80 investment. Good luck.

I ran across your blog cause I'm interested in seeing if Hallufix splints would help my bunion from progressing!
I saw those 5finger Vibrams, too, and "hey those look good for my bunion" popped into my head right away!
On your page you state that you will wear more narrow shoes to be fashionable- but I have discoved MANY shoes that both wide enough to be comfy and they are pretty too.
Propet is one company whose shoes I'm insane for! Mail Order all the way for me. No longer do I have to buy shoe sizes larger than I need. If I get the correct width, I don't need as large a shoe as I used to buy.
