The Boy on Top

Gravatar There is no dilemma as I see it. You have made the only right choice. To give the best to our kids is inbred into probably every parent. You are lucky enough to have the resources to do it - I was lucky enough to have other opportunities available to fulfil my desires for my children.

Hence...I am living in France, in the middle of nowhere, really. Main reason - to give the best to my boys marvellous school and social activities- things I could not do in SA.

Sacrifice? Yes and no.

Gravatar If only I had the money....although the eldest had such a bad time at the start of her new school we nearly moved areas completely....

Gravatar Ditto Geena. Don't feel guilty. As a parent it's your obligation to give your children the absolute best that you can.

Gravatar I dreamed of going to a decent school! You're giving your wee uns the best start in life and they'll be thankful for it when they are old enough to realise.

Would you like to adopt me?

Gravatar Oh goodness, I'm sorry that I was partly instrumental in outing you.

Yep, I agree with the others, you make the best choice you can and you put the children's education and happiness first.

By the way, two of my children went to private schools, the third (eight years later when we lived in a different place) went to, and was happy in, state schools.

Gravatar I went through the state system, my younger brother is now in his final year at a very good private school. He's had more opportunities, possibly shifted his grades up a level from what he would have achieved in the public system and has some great networking points. Would I do it with my own ickle people? Very probably however there is something to be said for the theory that those children who want to achieve, will no matter the surroundings.

Don't feel guilty, feel proud that you've achieved a position in life where you can afford to do it.

Gravatar Thanks for the comments, but I shall remain guilty. I'm protestant, guilt is inbuilt. So long as I buy my children privelidge not universal, I will remain guilty.

Doesn't mean I'll stop, they're my kids and I'll give them the best I can.

Gravatar I guess I'm middle class but the way I see it is this...money is good, living well is good, I don't understand why some folks knock it. Those who are better off can do soooo much for those in need.

Indeed, its how to harness it, both in others and ourselves. TB
