I feel the same as you, in both respects. As I work from home, I can at least plan my time. And I'm not Important and High-Powered like you.
I think that a one-off illness probably can be worked through, if you feel up to it. But if you seem to be catching every infection going, then take a break before you get really ill, as then you will take a long time to get back on track.
'Important and High-Powered' Ha! When someone makes me prime minister, maybe I'll be that! Not now though...
Thankfully I seem to mostly have my health, but a flue or cold or two a year seems par for the course... TB

Maybe a late-in, early finish would help whilst feeling under the weather?
You mean I could lie in until 7 and go to bed by 10? Wehey! TB

Oops, I may have been the one that got you sick. I left a comment yesterday, and I definitely have a cold.
Sorry. Here, have some orange juice.
Tank You. Would you like some of my chicken soup? TB

You get to a certain level of seniority, you know it will be worse unmuddling all the stuff that will be muddled if you don't go in than it will be going in sick to do it.
I used to find that missing the commute and spending all day working from home on the phone and the internet could be a reasonable compromise....and that was before broadband was available.
I do try to work the odd day from home, but it doesn't always work. Right now, my job requires a lot of face time. Its partly cultural, partly the stage at which we're at and the amount of change and decision/motivation required with people.
Its also a bit of pure diary management. I had a day last week when I had five conflicting meetings piled up during the same hour. Nasty. TB

Nasty indeed. I hope you have a good PA. I only really relaised what a differnec thye make and how much more efficient they can make you with the last PA I had, in Oz. She was brilliant. (And she called herself a secretary).
I was only suggesting working at home when you are sick, as being a compromise between a real sickie and dragging yourself in. There comes a point when face time is bad because you are so miserable and muddle-headed and people never realise how much that's because you're ill, they just think you're stupid and bad-tempered. But you can probably still write reasonably sensible emails at that point.

When I worked in an office and got sick with a cold I stayed home. I just can't function, I cough badly, asthma and all. Plus I just want to sleeeeeeeeep.
I don't think about work. I know it's there, waiting for me.
Me too, I just subject eveyone around me to it... TB
