Wow...horrible. Of course as a fat American citizen (even though i was born in Argentina and am on my way out of the country at some point) I have to point out some of us are not fat because of hiw much we eat. When I moved to this country I was slim but the crap that is in the food here can mess with your system. So, while I am all for being accountable and making a change, sometimes it's the crap the government allows into our food that keeps us this way. Just a thought.

And a very good though. This is just one aspect of a whole range of interrelated items that contribute to our slightly unhealthy society at the moment. Crap food is clearly an area we should put a lot of attention to. You're right, it can seriously screw up your metabolism. TB

Dear Pot,
Hmmm, didn't I read recently that the British are catching up to the US in overweightedness?
Love, your old friend,
Kettle
Hell, I'm Canandian so officially stand on the kettle side of the fence. The statistic will stand true Globally, but to a lesser extent. First, though the UK and EU in general are statistically catching up on being overweight using the Body Mass stat of % of population over the BMI of 25, the US has a far larger proportion of that over the BMI of 30 (obese). Second, the UK and EU have far less passenger miles per capita, so the ratio of extra fuel per capita pound will be a far lower ratio.
I should have been kinder with my opening. This is not a US only issue, its only far greater in the US. I just think it is enourmously sad that in our peace and plenty we let ourselves misuse the planet in so many ways, as that article showed in just one aspect. TB

Ugh!! Well, I'm helping to lower that standard by uh, not driving because my car is locked away in another state thus I'm religated to public transport AND I'm on a diet...

I didn't know what to say to this earlier...
But you know, what I saw in the UK this weekend (now that I am out of the rarified, somewhat snooty atmosphere of the ex-boyf and mingling with the hoi polloi again I can SEE things....hallelujah)...is an increase in portion size in restaurants...an over-abundance of sweet, cakey junk food in the shops and a lot heftier people than ever before.
I'd say one of these days the Brits will have to sit up and take notice.
But yes BT - the Yanks take the cake!

Don't disagree, the UK, and indeed most of the EU on on a slippery fatty slope! TB
