I've worked for people in the past where when I've gone to them for advice or a decision and we've talked through it to such an extent that I've ended up having to make the decision myself anyway.
Some people appreciate that style of management. I don't.
If I go to a senior staff member about something, it's generally because I don't have the authority to do something or I genuinely need their expertise. In which case, I want them to make a decision, not go through my entire decision making process to date.
I guess it comes down to whether the people working for you have the authority to do their jobs and sufficient confidence in their own decision making ability?
That's a valid point, and I do try to diferentiate between decisions that need my authority vs decisions staff should have felt they can take. The problem at the moment most are the later rather than the former.
Staff who work for me have a lot of independence, if they're able. Not all are, and the more stressed everyone is, the less independent people seem to feel. TB

So you just have to keep up that mantra 'I will not yell, I will not yell, I will -
In my case, I do this with my computer at work. Of course it usually fails and I end up sitting here cursing and punching at the mouse while the rest of the office tries not to stare...
That mantra is firmly in my mind today. Mind you I don't curse and punch and my staff, I think people would do more than stare if I did that... TB

You know what? I think you deserve that Porsche.

Yeah, but I'm getting a Smart car Pick it up on Saturday, though it does have flappy paddles for changing gears, so I can pretend can't I? TB

People like angry bear mode if it's not directed at them, and preferably not at anyone in their team. It validates their opinion that someone from some other team was behaving unreasonably.
Gallumping makes them worry that even you are rattled so we're all doomed......
There's also the control issue. I've found that a majority of people actually like someone else to be in charge. Its a comfort factor. That is, so long as who ever is in charge can be trusted! TB

My father is a screamer, a huffer, a puffer. He was that way at work. He is that way at home. No one liked it / him. I'm not a screamer ... though in times of issues, issues, issues I think my stress level shows in either the panic in my voice or on my face.
I'm not a screamer either, though I occasionally huff. That's not fun to have either at work or at home, sorry dear. My dear old dad was good most of the time, but had a few years on the bottle that were rather unpleasent. The joys of growing up eh? TB
