The Boy on Top

Gravatar BT - I can only sympathise. It sounds perfectly dreadful. A nightmare. For me, this morning, in 2 3/4 hours I drove to town, gave 2 hour class and drove home again. Now sitting smugly and happily at my PC, drinking coffee, whilst a pot of choucroute simmers on the stove for my lunch and the rain beats down outside.

Sigh... 4 meetings so far today, two more before the day ends, 5 phone calls, countless emails and a stream of people needing "Just five minutes". I love my job, I really do, but the thought of sitting at home with a pot of choucroute summering on the stove sounds positively lovely. TB

Gravatar Seems like that pied-a-terre option is lookin' mighty fine, eh? And maybe combine that with some telecommuting on 1 or 2 days a week? "Really, boss, telecommuters get *way* more work done. No water-cooler breaks..."

I've done that a lot in previous roles, but this current one requires the face time. I'm working with a lot of editors you see TB

Gravatar Got the T-shirt. You can actually do a lot remotely - I know because at one point I was in Sydney and a lot of my staff were in London so commuting was not really an option - but no it's not as good as being in the office. Video-Skype at the desktop ought to make it a step easier though?

I still suggest a medium-size trailie and moto-cross boots! Good exercise, too.

Yeah, it will get better soon and allow me to do more home working. Its just intense and needing a lot of face time at the moment. Which of course makes the wasted time more agrevating! TB

Gravatar I am only a 10 minute drive from work...A 2+ hour commute sounds perfectly dreadful. My sympathies boy.

10 minutes? I may have to consider disowning you now... Mind you, the wife has all of a 20 minute commute... TB

Gravatar Ugh! That's awful! I live about 20 miles from my office but it takes an hour on average to get here in the morning and slightly longer to get home. Mostly b/c the trains here are so disorganized and so old they are either breaking down or so full I have to wait through two trains to finally get on! (happens at least 2x/wk)

An hour each way I could live with, this two hours plus is just a killer. TB

Gravatar The UK rail system is a big fat monkey from the Planet of the Apes.

I couldn't agree more. Don't know what that makes me though? TB

Gravatar Apologies if this is a repeat. Something strange is happening in the ether.

The UK Rail system is a big, dumb ape on the backs of us all.

Gravatar Damn it! It was a repeat! I'm sorry!!!! ;-(

20 strokes with a wet noodle. TB

Gravatar I SO couldn't do commuting every day! What?? Mix with the "great unwashed"...?

Although after suffering the hell of motorway traffic (not to mention crap girlie sense of direction/map reading skills) yesterday, maybe the train isn't such a bad idea...!

I will always choose the train out of preference for the motorway! TB

Gravatar I sympathise wholeheartedly. It only gets worse in winter when the weather plays its little games with us and the train companies. My relationship with SouthWest Tains and the influence they have on my life has (sadly) been the inspiration for a number of my posts!

I shall enjoy reading of the mutual pain! TB
