The Boy on Top

Ohh.... Global board. Sounds exciting. All that strategic thinking. I love the strategic stuff but loathe the teduim of the nitty gritty.

I know how you feel about resignation though. I did it last october and became a pariah and a turncoat with immediate effect. 6 weeks of back biting and critism. I resloved to read between the lines and realised they were abviously sorry to lose me and in truth I was a little sorry to be going but as some one once said "chaos & and confusion - may work here is done"

Good luck with the next month/ quarter/ half or even full years notice period....

There will inevitably be some of that. I expect I will become the source of all problems, that those I leave behind will heroically resolve. Such is the way it works. TB

Gravatar I don't suppose there is any chance of being put on Gardening leave?

I work in Sales, and that is the norm for anyone resigning in my industry. I've done it twice in my career, both times in the middle of summer by complete coincidence, ahem.

Oh, I wish, I so so wish... I'm not going to a competitor though, I'm actually moving to a major customer. I expect my exit out the door will be sung to hosanna's with flowers thrown at my feet (I've already had an offer of lunch by one of the sales team). Still, I will take some time off before I start. TB

Gravatar "Source of all problems heroically solved by those left behind"

Ain't that the truth!

You can take time off to PM the extension on the house!

#digs out details of decent builders in Surrey#

#finds list is surprisingly short#

Ha! I'm surprised you where able to find a list! TB

Gravatar Well, congratulations on your new appointment. Soon after completing a major project is a good time to move on and it sounds as if it'll be an exciting challenge.

Precisely, and thank you. The stars are rather in alignement on this change. Which is a good thing. TB

Gravatar Ooh, new job, with all its possibilities! Good luck on that.

From previous comments, it seems that in the UK people stay on for a long time after turning in their resignation? Here in the US, you give "two weeks' notice". Sometimes, the employer prefers that you empty your desk right away, which ends up being a good thing because you are legally entitled to your two weeks' pay, so you can take a bit of a breather between jobs.

Anyway, enjoy the farewell lunches, and prepare yourself for the welcome lunches!

Yes, employement law allows for extended notice periods between employer and employee. At senior levels this can be as long as a year, and two years isn't unheard of. This protects both sides, as it ensures the employer keeps someone long enough to "derisk" any handover, and protects the employee as if they are fired they walk away with a buffer payment until they find a new job. Most professional staff are on one month's notice, senior managers and execs are on three months plus. TB

Gravatar Wow, sounds like you're really moving up in the world!! Ok, now remember to keep the blog under raps to your new work peeps so you can gossip to us

I will do my best! TB

Gravatar I just did the same thing Boy...You have to follow your heart (even when it's as dark as yours ; )) and go for it. Good Luck!!

Yes, and when are we going to get the details? Hmm? A dark heart? Me? Well, yes actually. World Domination, that's my end game. TB

Gravatar Good luck! Enjoy the bit between feeling responsible for one load of stuff and feeling responsible for another load of stuff! Going to a major customer is good in one way, but it means the people at your new place blame you for stuff your old employer does.....

Thanks, I'll need it. Not that sort of customer (I'd have to go into depths on our industry which means revealing it...), and in the grand scheme of things, though my new employer is important to my current employer, the reverse isn't exactly true. LT

Gravatar Oh how exciting! Good luck.

and sorry for the dull comment but I Am nursing a hangover. A sizeable one.

Thank you. Hangover huh? Hopefully well earned! TB

Gravatar Fantastic news!

Hope the transition goes smoothly..

So do I... Am negotiating what I have to do to get out the door early. Always an enjoyable conversation! TB

Gravatar Congratulations you! Does this mean we get to know more about the intricacies of the new job? Or at least the old one! I, for one, am intrigued!! (And you know how that old intrigue works with me!).

As somebody said, hope the leaving period isnt too bad, and enjoy the brief break before cracking on with the next one.

Good luck, you!

Many thanks. Oh I'll drop some hints, maybe more than hints. Its not like my current employer could do worse than fire me! TB
