At our house, it's the Consort that feels a visceral connection to the garden, and me that likes to just "be" in the garden.
You're description is heavenly. We need pictures!

We have yet another connection Boy. The only thing I miss about being divorced (other than seeing my son everyday) is working in my yard. I used to spend hours working out there and got quite a few compliments on my landscaping. Ironically, I spent so much time out there so I wouldnt have to listen to my nagging wife!! Cheers...
It does sound like you did it more for the right reasons (enjoying it), than the wrong (avoiding the wife). I don't have to worry about the later thankfully, so I can just properly enjoy. The question is then Matt, how do you get a garden back in your life? TB

I envy you, Boy. Over the years, my garden has become only a place to work, not to relax. I love it, I enjoy it, but more than anything it's a chore.
I think it was the ground elder that destroyed the pleasure. Thank goodness I don't have japanese knot-weed
Garden's are always a chore, and ours could easily slip from the enjoyment factor to the work factor. We do have a gardener to deal with the more routine stuff, so mostly the chores are minor, but I can understand your point completely.
We do have Japanese Knotweed, though we just manage to keep it in control by rigourously cutting it down. Haven't killed it mind you, but its maintained in one small out of the way part of the garden. TB

Love me garden. Built a pond years back with a cascade to another pond. Loads of fish and pond plants. Neglected it lately with too much to do. Think I'll have a few days off after reading this and potter.
Get out there and potter man, that's what gardens are there for! TB

Lovely. My garden is a patio with 4 pots of lavender, 2 pots of daisies, and a laurel tree in the corner. Nothing that requires a care in the world.
Do you want more or are you content with the ease of it? I must say though, for central London you're blessed to have something external to retire to! TB
