The Boy on Top

Gravatar Well, may I say that I have missed you and I'm glad you haven't given up blogging entirely.

One elderly neighbour walked quite a long way (the hypotenuse of a 4 acre field - yes you need to know the dimensions, let's pretend it's square) to complain that we were destroying a Tudor chimney. We showed her the places where the mortar had crumbled and light shone through before she was convinced we were only repairing it. Your neighbours sound a lot more troublesome, however.

Troublesome is a good word, rude is another. I should post his last email (yes, he sent an email from across the drive) it left me in a foul mood all day. TB

Gravatar Hello! And Welcome Back! And we need to do another one! And will we get pics of the progress ....? And we won't hold you to more blogging than you are up to! x, c

Oh! A picture of the vast hole! I shall post that, its really quite fascinating if a little muddy. TB

Gravatar you know I am keen to hear all the details of a build project.

As for neighbour complaints they generally have very little recourse to actually do anything to stop the build (although I'm not sure on the private road position) if you access to construction traffic is secure then please, from personal experience, don't aquesse to any demands as they always come back with more.

I always find a polite 'thanks for letting me know your concerns but we are within our rights to build/ maintain so go back to to the rock from beneath which you crawled' is the best tact.......

Which is precisely how we're dealing with it. So very sorry, but we are building, etc. The private drive thing is a bit weird as we have a residents association but its not a legal entity and in a strict interpretation doesn't actually own the drive. We suspect the origional developer (circa 1930's) would technically own the deeds, but that company is long defunct. I'm sure we could sort it, but the cost would be considerable. TB
